Full description
Start with hotel pick-up or go to the meeting point to board your vehicle, a shared air-conditioned mini-bus with a tour guide, or private vehicle (with optional guide), according to the option chosen. Kompong Phluk is 30 kilometers south-east of Siem Reap. Visit the pagoda or local market first, then go by motorized boat on a tour of the stilted buildings. See where the people have courageously adapted to some of the most unimaginable conditions, all with a big smile on their faces. Enjoy the beautiful atmosphere in this one-of-a-kind village from the comfort of the boats. The guide, if present, explains the history, culture, and lifestyle of the villagers. The villages are surrounded by mangrove forest. Take an optional side-trip of the flooded forest on a rowing boat, available October to January. The motorboat stops at a small floating cafe, a good place to see the sun go down. After this awe-inspiring experience, you will return to the hotel around 1:30 pm for your own leisure time.

Great Afternoon

We had a lovely time on this trip. Our guide was excellent; very talkative and informative. He spoke English very well and was quite entertaining too. The motorboat ride was good, but mind your head when standing up. We slowly went around the winding waterways and saw numerous stilted houses and the villagers way of life. So many villagers smiled and waved as the kids played, the men fished and the women did their daily chores. We saw the sunset over Tonle Sap which was really magnificent. Great afternoon. Thank you to Siem Reap Shuttle.

Very Interesting community on stilts

I booked the 1:30pm tour for the sunset but went with a new friend. We got picked up before 1:20pm and were brought to the main office. From there we headed out on a bus to the lake. We stopped at the boat port. Then we walked a bit and boarded a big motor boat which chugged along the river and eventually wound it's way around Kampong Phluk. We stopped at a floating restaurant with gift shop and alligator farm. You can pay 5 dollars per person to get into a small two person canoe and the lady owner will row you around the forest. This is scenic and peaceful but we got hi-jacked by a floating store and they pestered us to buy overpriced drinks and snacks. It was difficult to say no. Then we got back onto the big boat and went out to the lake for the sunset. We got back to town 7pm. We read stories about tours stopping at orphanages and schools for professional begging but this tour company is reputable and didn't do that. So, in short, it was a very pleasant tour and so we recommend it.
