    Depart Siem Reap on a 4-hour tour to the great lake, Tonle Sap, driving through rural villages and rice fields. Travel by boat down the Kompong Phluk River and into the main village. Depending on the time of year, you’ll either cruise along the main street of the village or walk along it in the low water-level season. See locals at work in a rural fishing village. There are a few schools, a large bob-ha pergola, and many stilted homes towering some nine meters high to adapt to the changing water levels. Transfer to a small boat and ride through the flooded forest of Kompong Phluk. Continue onto the great lake itself and visit a small floating village.

      Vanna, our tour-guide, was worth it...

      When we planned to go to Siem Reap, we were sure that it would be very hot and that the water level of Tonle-Sap lake was expected to be very low. Nevertheless we decided to book this half-day trip with Khmer Detours through GetYourGuide. We were picked up at our hotel quite on time (End of Khmer New Year ;)), had a good diver, AC minivan and enough cooled drinking water and wet towels for the trip. The minivan had a capacity of 10 passengers but we were only 4 (my wife and a very sympathetic elderly couple from the USA with Indian origin). So it was a very harmonic group and we talked a lot. The highlight, besides the village and Tonle-Sap, was our guide Vanna. He knew that it was not easy to explain the participants that the water-level is so low, that we would board much closer to the lake and so on.       We were picked up from the hotel... Checked the voucher. After about a minute's drive we had to get off at a collection point. There the respective excursions were distributed to the buses. They wanted to put us on another tour... Since the provider apparently had different dates from us, even though my voucher showed the floating village, which I ended up booking. After back and forth we sat in the next bus... During the bus ride the driver gave me his cell phone and had to deal with an unfriendly person... That we had the wrong tour... After another 5 minutes we were simply abandoned at a gas station... We were told that someone would come in 15 minutes. 20 minutes later the bus came... We drove to the floating city... The tour was ok. You were dragged through.. And dropped off on the lake on top of a floating restaurant.. Where crocodiles other animals were kept in small cages, which resists me. Too much money.

      Unexpected Insight Into a Different Way of Life

      We were delighted to find that our guide had grown up in the fishing village we visited. In fact, we met his cousin at the market! We saw the local school where he once taught math. The entire tour was seamless, and well-managed. We truly enjoyed ourselves!
