  • From Dubai: Sharjah City Tour

    4. From Dubai: Sharjah City Tour

This tour will take you to Sharjah, the "Pearl of the Gulf". A pivotal landmark to see during the tour is King Faisal Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the Emirates. You will visit the renovated Fort of Sharjah, the former residence of the ruling family built in 1820.  Then you'll proceed to wander through the adjacent souk "Al Arsa". Before returning, there's time to stroll and shop at souk "Al Markazi" – a treasure trove of carpets, jewellery and handicrafts.

The half day trip to Sharjah was fantastic! Our driver, Mahir, picked us up on time from our hotel in downtown Dubai. We were given ample time, between 30 minutes to hour, to visit each of the highlighted stops in Sharjah. Our first stop was the immense and beautiful King Faisal mosque. The highlight of the trip was without a doubt the Heritage museum, which holds truly remarkable exhibits of the ancient Islamic world including the history, science, technology, commerce, and “Silk Road” trade from Islamic antiquity. One of our last stops was Al Arsa souk where we found numerous shops selling heavily discounted gold (bargaining is a must). We even had time to relax at one of the souk’s cafés to enjoy delicious karak tea (try it once)!! This excursion is definitely worth doing and provides a unique perspective of an entirely different emirate (Sharjah being one of 7 distinct Emirates) in contrast to the bustling and touristy areas of old/new Dubai and Jumeirah.

The tour was very informative and interesting, the wildlife park was beautifully laid out and the animals were mostly observed in their natural environment, the historical fortress offered an insight into the past of the Emirates. My guide (I was the only participant) tried very hard, he paid attention to sun protection, bought drinks and knew a lot of interesting facts about the emirates and thus gave me an impression of how the individual emirates work and how they relate to each other. He also managed to organize a tour of a brand new large mosque in Fujairah, although you actually have to book in advance. The afternoon at the pool bar in the Sandy Beach Hotel was, in view of the temperatures, a more than successful end to a really nice tour.

This trip was very fun, entertaining and culturally fulfilling! Our guide, Nimesh was patient and very helpful with some tips and gave us some background knowledge on Dubai. The places we visited was as expected, beautiful! I would highly recommend
