Full description

Travel to the charming village of Aracena from Seville and visit the biosphere reserve of Dehases de Sierra Morena. Discover an area so unique that Nasa has a base to study it on this day trip to the Rio Tinto mining area.

Hop aboard an airconditioned vehicle and relax on the drive to the biosphere reserve of Dehases de Sierra Morena. The reserve offers you the chance to see some of the bulls and Iberian pigs which inhabit the area.

Have the chance to visit a farm of wild bulls. Explore the Rio Tinto, an area that has been exploited for copper, silver, and gold for over 2000 years. See how this activity has changed the landscape of this area so much that it now resembles Mars.

Uncover how main river here runs through old mining fields, transporting metallic minerals which turn the river into a reddish color when it combines with its mildly acidic waters, making life in the river nearly impossible.

Head to Aracena, a small town located in the middle of Sierra Morena. This is the capital city of the Natural Park Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche. Aracena has trails through its Dehesas which are full of cork trees, oaks, and free roaming Iberian pigs.

Visit the Grutas de las Maravillas, a natural cave almost 2000 meters long, full of stalactites and stalagmites formed by the water running in the limestone. Take in views of the rural Mosque of Almonaster la Real.

Exceptional. To do ABSOLUTELY! A huge thank you to Augustin who was incredibly helpful in guiding us on this guided tour, reserved in French but which turned out to be with a Spanish guide, who spoke English, with an Andalusian accent. Not easy… But Augustin, allowed us to appreciate this getaway even more with his culinary advice, his translations, his anecdotes, etc… The landscapes are breathtaking. The colors are unreal. The cave is really a marvel (and very practical when it's 40 degrees). We really recommend you. We were lucky to be a small group of 6 people, plus our guide and our French guide, so very intimate and almost privileged. Truly exceptional. Thanks again to you Augustin, looking forward to seeing you again one day on a visit somewhere in the world! A big thank you from two conquered Rochelaise.

A very varied tour that is really worth seeing with a very good guide who also knows interesting points along the route, eg breeding bulls in the wild, friendly Iberico pigs. Impressive the existing environmental problems (Rio Tino as a trickle of poison, huge opencast mine) - and as a contrast the grotto of Aracena - we have never seen such stalactites.

Enjoyed this day trip. Partly due to clear explanations from guide Sergio, no rush, time was taken for everything. Many stops with beautiful views and the cave is just… breathtakingly beautiful. I also had three nice fellow travelers. So Sergio and fellow travellers, thank you for the beautiful, educational day. Grt Cinthia
