  • See North Korea from the Dora Observatory
Full description

Head to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and see the strip of land between North and South Korea that symbolizes a decades-long conflict and an important chapter of world history.

Start your tour at Imjingpak Park, situated only 7 km from the Demarcation Line, a tribute to the Korean War. Visit its observatory, monuments, and the Freedom Bridge, which was used to transport 13,000 prisoners home after the war.

Continue to the Third Infiltration Tunnel, discovered in 1978, and witness an incomplete tunnel built by North Korea into the South that was denounced by the UN.

Descend into history at the Dora Observatory and see into North Korea. Lastly, head to Dorasan Station, the last station before the DMZ and symbolic of the hope of reunification. Be dropped off at the City Hall in Seoul at the conclusion of the tour.

In my opinion a MUST for every Seoul visitor. Very well organized; Pick up time will be confirmed by phone in the evening between 9 - 11 pm; you will be picked up in a small bus and then driven to the big coach; the tour was fully booked so we were a group of 42 people. The drive to the DMZ took about 1 hour 20 minutes. In total we had 5 stops on the tour; there was enough time for each one. Our guide Jil was very friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, we were back at 5:30 p.m., so the tour took a total of 7.5 hours. (Of course, this can vary due to the traffic situation and the location at the DMZ, since the military alone decides when our bus is allowed to enter. For this reason, the tour should NOT be booked if you have an appointment on the same day in the evening.)

It was good it. It was an early start originally was meant to be picked up at 7:40 but got a phone call the day before to tell me that I would be picked up an hour early as it was summer holiday for school and it is kinda like a first come first served situation so if your tour gets there first you can go in first. The observatory was good I would look at the weather before booking as if it is not a sunny clear day your not going to see much it was for my tour by my tour guild showed us what it was like the day before and you could not see a thing. Then we went to the third tunnel and it was a good experience to see and walk the tunnel but it is a long walk up and down not good for people who don’t like small spaces and is quite small so you will need to be crouching for the tunnel part the whole time. The experience as a whole was good to see.

Michelle was a great guide, she was super knowledgeable, organized and very friendly. She is very passionate about Korea and I felt very welcomed and learnt a lot. The tour itself is extremely unique and interesting. It’s well worth the 70 bucks and very memorable. The driver for the hotel pickup was also very friendly!
