From Edinburgh: The Whiskies and Liqueurs of East Lothian

1. From Edinburgh: The Whiskies and Liqueurs of East Lothian

Make sure you have a good breakfast this morning, you're going to need it. Your first stop is Glenkinchie Distillery*, nestled ever-so-quaintly in a peaceful glen. Founded in 1825, this distillery languished in obscurity for over 150 years before becoming an international brand at the end of the 1980s. Hear how this distillery became such a success, see the huge stills, and sample the Malt Whiskies. Then head to the coast to North Berwick, one of the most beautiful seaside villages in East Lothian. Have your binoculars at the ready and admire the birds of Bass Rock while you enjoy a spot of lunch. After you’ve breathed in the sea air and savoured some local specialities, you get on the bus and travel to Buck & Birch Distillery. These drink connoisseurs launched in 2016 with a mantra that they 'don't follow convention'. Their unique liquors express the landscapes that inspired them and are perfect for pleasure seekers, foodies, chefs, cocktail-lovers, and adventurers. From here, enjoy your journey back to Edinburgh as you travel through quaint villages and the golden wheat and barley fields. *Itinerary and distillery visits are subject to change.

What people are saying about Scottish Borders

This was such a fun outing, and one that I would usually not book for myself (as a wine/beer type). What a happy surprise! The distillery tours were really interesting and conducted by lively knowledgeable guides who were also generous hosts (Helen, our whiskey guide, had them make a whiskey cocktail specially for me and another participant who also preferred not to drink it straight). For a quick lunch, North Berwick had an adorable high street, which was steps from the sea with gorgeous sweeping views. Guess what, gin is tasty! The gin hosts started us out with a G&T that was bright and crisp. Then they toured and poured more varieties as we sat and relaxed. The trip was made so inviting by Stefan, our guide and driver! It was just me and he was very welcoming. (Also funny, knowledgeable and generous when he could tell we wanted a quick photo stop on the drive home along the water). Perfect day!

The tour and the tour guide was very professional. Everything worked perfectly. We are very satisfied. Especially the Cin distillery house selection was very good.
