Chilean Treasures: Penguins and Alpacas Private Tour

1. Chilean Treasures: Penguins and Alpacas Private Tour

After your hotel pick up, venture towards the Pacific Coast. You will visit the largest privately-owned alpaca farm in the world where you can interact with these beautiful animals up close. See the entire alpaca wool production process and enjoy a broad selection of exclusive creations and handmade art crafts. Afterwards, you will continue up the coastline on the Ruta del Pacifico to the town of Cachagua, a stone's throw from Penguin Island. Try to catch a glimpse of penguins by the naked eye or using binoculars. Walk along a beautifully carved pathway to a small cove with gorgeous views of the ocean. Afterward, stop for lunch in the quiet seaside resort town of Zapallar. Penguin sightings from the shore are most common during the summer months of November to March. During these months there are several hundred penguins on the island. Between April and October, the penguin population reduces to only a dozen or so. Therefore, please be aware that during these months it may not be possible to see the penguins on the island from the shore. However, you will have the option of joining a private boat tour for an extra fee. This option is available throughout the year.

Santiago: Incan Petroglyphs, Alpacas, and Wine Experience

2. Santiago: Incan Petroglyphs, Alpacas, and Wine Experience

After being collected from your Santiago accommodation, your tour will begin with a stop at Paidahuén Archaeological Park. Paidahuén is an isolated hill located along the northern bank of the Aconcagua River in the rural town of San Esteban. At the top of Paidahuén, you will be able to appreciate slabs of large rocks adorned with petroglyphs. Full of symbolism and mystery, these rock drawings are work of native populations dating from 450 to 1,000 years ago. From the top of the hill, you may ponder unanswered questions while taking the natural context into consideration. Specifically, the relationship between Paidahuén Hill and other peaks in the valley, the hill’s strategic positioning, and the prevalence of north-facing petroglyphs. Following this, you will visit the San Esteban Winery for a vineyard tour and tasting. San Esteban is a family-owned and operated producer of high quality wines and table grapes. The vineyard exports to more than 20 countries, and their grapes are planted along the banks of the Aconcagua River, along the surrounding hillsides. This geography creates a micro-climate ideally suited for wine and table-grape production, with a soil quality that rivals the best wine-growing regions in other parts of South America. After lunch at a rustic restaurant in the mountains, you will venture to the largest privately-owned alpaca farm in Chile. Here you will be able to indulge in nature and discover this beautiful animal up close. You will see the entire alpaca wool production process, and also enjoy a broad selection of exclusive creations and handmade alpaca wool items that portray the patrimony and spirit of the Andean culture.

I would like to thank Mr. Sean our multilingual tour guide for the Santiago : Pacific Treasures Private tour. I was able to visit all the locations as listed in the tour itinerary with ease as Mr Sean planned and coordinated the movement between places really well. He was very knowledgeable about Chile’s culture and history which gave us interesting insights as he drove through a very scenic and enjoyable routes. The alpaca farm was the highlight of the tour as we got a chance to interact with a pioneering entrepreneur in alpaca wool production process. If we had more time at Santiago we would have engaged Mr. Sean for other day trips. Our comfort was his utmost priority throughout the trip. I highly recommend his private tour services around Santiago and Chile to all.

We debated on whether to take this tour, and we are so glad we did! We got up close and personal with the alpacas, feeding them and even holding a baby. The information provided about weaving the wool was interesting, and the fabric created was very soft and high quality. For penguin island, we took the optional boat ride, and we recommend doing it. We got very close to the penguins by being on the boat, and the pictures were excellent. In addition to penguins, there were many other types of birds, but we particularly liked the pelicans. Daniel from Chile Dream Tours is an excellent guide, and we highly recommend this tour to anyone!
