Chilean Treasures: Penguins and Alpacas Private Tour

1. Chilean Treasures: Penguins and Alpacas Private Tour

After your hotel pick up, venture towards the Pacific Coast. You will visit the largest privately-owned alpaca farm in the world where you can interact with these beautiful animals up close. See the entire alpaca wool production process and enjoy a broad selection of exclusive creations and handmade art crafts. Afterwards, you will continue up the coastline on the Ruta del Pacifico to the town of Cachagua, a stone's throw from Penguin Island. Try to catch a glimpse of penguins by the naked eye or using binoculars. Walk along a beautifully carved pathway to a small cove with gorgeous views of the ocean. Afterward, stop for lunch in the quiet seaside resort town of Zapallar. Penguin sightings from the shore are most common during the summer months of November to March. During these months there are several hundred penguins on the island. Between April and October, the penguin population reduces to only a dozen or so. Therefore, please be aware that during these months it may not be possible to see the penguins on the island from the shore. However, you will have the option of joining a private boat tour for an extra fee. This option is available throughout the year.

From Santiago: Private Zapallar & Cachagua Island Experience

2. From Santiago: Private Zapallar & Cachagua Island Experience

Discover the captivating landscapes of Zappalar ("place of pumpkins" in Mapudungun) just 1.5 hours from Santiago and 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Valparaíso. Take a 1-hour boat ride to Cachagua Island, a reserve for the Humboldt penguin, and savor a fresh seafood lunch afterward. Begin your private tour with pickup at your hotel in Santiago. Upon arrival in Zapallar, understand why a number of European architects were attracted to the area in the 1960s and see the legacy they left in the houses. Just meters away from the white sand beach and crystal clear waters, classic Italian and German architecture will blow you away to a dreamy place. Go down unpaved streets and among the natural forest in the area with your professional guide. Head along a beautiful bath bordering the resort's rocky coast that was made by the local workers with local resources. Once in the cove where the boat ride starts, a local fisherman with more than 10 years of experience will take you to visit the Natural Monument of Cachagua Island, a place for the preservation of the emblematic Humboldt penguin. Admire the penguins and other birds — such as herons, swans, and seagulls — as well as the island's diverse flora and fauna. After this approximately 1-hour experience, you'll be invited to taste some typical gastronomy at Chringuito, a restaurant with a long fishing tradition. Relish the fresh seafood brought directly from the Pacific Ocean (not included in the tour price) before heading back to Santiago for drop-off at your hotel.

I would like to thank Mr. Sean our multilingual tour guide for the Santiago : Pacific Treasures Private tour. I was able to visit all the locations as listed in the tour itinerary with ease as Mr Sean planned and coordinated the movement between places really well. He was very knowledgeable about Chile’s culture and history which gave us interesting insights as he drove through a very scenic and enjoyable routes. The alpaca farm was the highlight of the tour as we got a chance to interact with a pioneering entrepreneur in alpaca wool production process. If we had more time at Santiago we would have engaged Mr. Sean for other day trips. Our comfort was his utmost priority throughout the trip. I highly recommend his private tour services around Santiago and Chile to all.
