Full description
Delve deep into the history of Pier 39 and venture into the maze of docks and wharves at Fisherman’s Wharf. Now one of San Francisco's most popular tourist attractions, Fisherman's Wharf is still home to a number of fishing fleets, retaining its ties to the industry behind its name. Greet the resident colony of sea lions from a vantage point without the usual crowds and see traditional fishing boats much like the ones that were originally used by Italian immigrants to scour the bay in search of renowned Dungeness crabs. Peek into the restaurants where one of San Francisco's iconic seafood dishes was invented. Heading down the quay, smell the bread at Boudin Bakery where sourdough bread made its American debut in 1849. End with a free chocolate tasting at the site of the original Ghirardelli factory. Along the way, learn the story of the immigrants who came to the area over a century ago, enriching the cultural fabric of the city.

Guide was knowledgeable and personable. One correction: the boat at pier 45 is the restored Pampanito not the Hornet.
