After having been collected from your accommodation, you will begin your day out on the water to watch whales in their natural sanctuary.  You will visit a lost paradise aboard a certified boat out in the privileged waters of Samaná and Miches Bay. From Punta Cana: Samana Day Trip

3. From Punta Cana: Samana Day Trip

Samaná is a peninsula located on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. Full of incredible landscapes and pure nature, it is a member of the World's Most Beautiful Bays Club of UNESCO as well as having been classified as a World Eco-Tourism Paradise. Each year between the months of February and March over 3,500 humpback whales mate in the warm coastal waters just off of the coast of the peninsula. Your tour begins with a boat trip from Miches to the Bay of Samaná, accompanied by a beautiful view. After arriving to your location, you will embark on a horseback trek to the majestic 50-meter high Lemon waterfall, which contains a beautiful natural pool below and is surrounded by lush tropical forest. Following your waterfall tour, you will head on a city tour atop a safari truck through the city of Samaná. Discovered by the navigator Christopher Columbus in 1493, this was the point in which the first hostile meeting between Europeans and natives occurred. Following your city tour, you will sit down for a Dominican buffet lunch in a field restaurant, where you can indulge in a tasting of tropical fruits harvested in the area. After lunch, you will be taken in the safari truck back to the dock, after which you will head to Cayo Levantado or "Bacardi Island". After arriving at this 1-kilometer long island, you can enjoy some refreshing free time on its beautiful beaches complete with clear turquoise water. After this free time, you will be ferried back to the mainland before being dropped off back at your accommodation.

Samana: Whale Watching Tour

4. Samana: Whale Watching Tour

Every year from the middle of January until the end of March you are able to see Humpback Whales in Samana. Samana is considered one of the best places in the world for humpback whale watching. These beautiful and giant marine mammals, come out regularly to the surface to breathe, remain in apnea for about twenty minutes, but can remain underwater for up to forty minutes. Whales come to Samana to give birth due to their whalebone when born, only having a very thin layer of fat so cannot withstand the cold waters. At birth, the calf measures between three and a half and five meters and weighs a ton. After being collected from your hotel in Puerto Plata, Sosua or Cabarete, make your way to Samana and enjoy the amazing views of the lovely Dominican landscapes. Departing from the dock in the town of Samana, a fast and secure boat will transport you in comfort, in search of whales. Next, you will head to Bacardi Island, also known as Cayo Levantado. On the island a delicious typical Dominican lunch will be served. After lunch and to complete your wonderful experience you will have the chance to enjoy the turquoise waters and white sand of Cayo Levantado. It is a very long day but really worth to visit.

What people are saying about Samaná

Very good day, very friendly guide and driver. Staff on the boat very involved in the search for the whales that we were lucky enough to see on several occasions. Magic show, I strongly recommend.

We have not seen as many whales as we would like and it has rained intermittently all day, and I would still do the tour again. Everyone has been very nice and friendly and the food was very good.

The tour was well organized, there is a lot to offer, very nice tour guide and did everything possible to offer us a successful excursion. We saw the whales too!

It was a wonderful trip. We saw the whales very well.
