Full description
Discover the main sights of Madrid on a 2.5-hour orientation tour, and visit the most important monuments, squares and commercial avenues. Learn the history of the Spanish capital, from the old Habsburg and Borbon quarters, to the contemporary developments of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Discover the art deco buildings of the Gran Vía. Go to Plaza de España at its western end to see 2 of the city’s most impressive skyscrapers. Venture into Ciudad Universitaria (University City) to see the Palace of Moncloa, official residence of the Prime Minister of Spain since 1977. Continue down Calle Mayor to Puerta del Sol, where you will discover the clock with the bell that marks the traditional eating of the “Twelve Grapes” on New Year's Eve. Marvel at the monumental gate of Puerta de Alcalá, and go to Plaza de Colón (Columbus Square) for a complimentary soft drink at the Hard Rock Café. Continue along the wide Paseo de la Castellana to the Real Madrid stadium of Santiago Bernabéu. See some of Madrid’s most striking contemporary architecture in Plaza de Castilla, including the Caja Madrid Obelisk. Then, go inside the Royal Palace, former residence of the Spanish kings, and look at the opulent furnishings of the official reception rooms, Royal Chapel, Throne Room and private rooms of King Carlos III and Queen Isabel II.
