Full description

Experience an unforgettable day tour to the incredible frozen waterfalls of Korouma. After being picked up at your accommodation and changing into appropriate clothes, allow your guide to drive you to the Posio area about 100 km away from Rovaniemi.

The snowy scenery of Korouma Canyon provides the opportunity for winter hiking surrounded by beautiful and unforgettable views. Korouoma Canyon is one of the largest natural attractions that Lapland has to offer. It is a bedrock fracture zone which is millions of years old.

The frozen icefalls are unique in Finland, and they are excellent for walking and appreciating the beautiful nature that surrounds it. The Ice Trail in Korouoma Canyon is the ideal place to try this fun way to experience deep snow and unforgettable forest landscapes. At the bottom of the canyon is the Korojoki river, which ends in Kemijoki River.

There are many varied animal species in Korouoma Canyon including deer, wild hare, foxes, and golden eagles. Hiking is the perfect activity for the whole family, and anyone can do it, no previous experience is required. With winter overalls and proper boots anyone can walk in deep snow without any type of chill.

The Koruoma Waterfalls are magic and remain frozen until late spring. Precipitation and sub-zero temperatures determine the number and shape of frozen waterfalls.

Visitors are stunned by the amazing frozen waterfalls and sometimes the enthusiastic ice climbers can be seen climbing up the frozen waterfalls to the top, despite the intensely cold weather. You will admire the icefalls along the Koronjää trail, which leads you past three of the biggest and most beautiful frozen waterfalls in Korouoma.

The Korouoma area in Posio is excellent for a walking day tour and hike. There are many lean-to shelters with campfire spots in the area. Sausages will be grilled over a campfire to keep you warm and energetic during the day.

The place was spectacular. Amazing views. The guide was the worst part. He was not helpful when parts of the path were slippery and did not speak. Not friendly at all. On the way going to the canyon and back we stopped for too long for a break. Also on our way to the canyon the guide got lost and we had to spend 30 minutes more driving to the park. I would have preferred to spend more time on the park than in the car. The place worth it but with different guide.

They picked us up and dropped us off and provided good thermal clothes and shoes. The hike was a truly wonderful and magical experience. Our guide Kristiina was amazing and it was clear that she loves what she does as a guide. The sights are one-of-a-kind and being a small group meant plenty of photo opportunities :) We saw wild reindeer and had a cozy bbq at the end with hot berry juice by an open fire. Truly fantastic!
