Full description
Come and join this typical Italian experience in an Enoteca. The tasting is offered in a traditional wine bar, called Enoteca, located in the 18th-century Palazzetto Giangiacomo, in the heart of Rome. It is a family run wine bar that started as a wine-shop over fifty years ago and was transformed into its present state by the third generation. The wine bar shelves are lined with carefully selected bottles produced by prestigious and new wineries. An inviting selection of regional cheeses, premium salami and hams, smoked fish and a choice of hot homemade dishes complement the wine. You will learn how to drink and taste the wine as well as distinguish the differences between colors and aromas. An introduction about the area where the wines are produced will also be given in English. Examples of some perfect parings between food and wine: Try a glass of Bellone, a forgotten antique local white grape variety paired with Rome's ricotta, a rich and flavorful by-product of pecorino romano. Or taste a glass of Frascati Superiore, the white wine associated with Rome from the vineyards visible from the periphery of the city paired with pecorino Romano, a typical salty hard cheese from Lazio. You can also enjoy a glass of Nero Buona, a traditional, antique variety of red grapes, cultivated in the hills of Cori, combined with coppiette, a flavorful and spicy roman beef jerky or porchetta, a spit-roasted pig stuffed with wild herbs. These pairings are only examples of the quality of the products, and can be changed with seasonal food.

Our experience with our sommelier, Luca, was fantastic from start to finish. I booked this tasting thinking we’d try some new wine and maybe learn a few facts about them... but it entailed much more than that. We learned quite a lot about Italy’s climate and topographical areas that produced the unique characteristics in the various wines we sampled. We also learned what to look for when pairing meats and cheeses with wine, which will definitely be useful in the future! Overall, the opportunity to learn from Luca and his passion for wine is something that definitely cannot be missed! 10/10, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to break away from the crowded tours and do something a little different.

Fantastic first evening in Rome - Luca was brilliant!

The group I went to this with thoroughly enjoyed the evening, Luca was really engaging and funny - more than happy to crack a few jokes during the activity, it was all very relaxed trying the lovely wines and food to compliment, with each of us guessing the different flavours we could taste. It doesn't go really in depth, but is perfect for picking up great tips on tasting/pairing wines and food! We tried three different wines, two cheeses and two meats. The quality of all the wines and foods are excellent - the guys even enjoyed the Rose we sampled. It was a brilliant start to our most recent trip to Rome in a lovely little restaurant, I would highly recommend to anyone going in the coming months! We all loved it and Luca!

Great location, awesome sommelier and amazing wines!

My friend and I had a great time learning about new ways of trying and experiencing wines. It truly was an experience! Our sommelier Luca was awesome! We had a small group which was fun also. The pairing of the different wines with the cheeses and the meat was exceptional! I would totally recommend the degustation!
