Full description

Learn the story of the Roman Empire and its most important monuments on a half-day tour of Ancient Rome. Enjoy skip-the-line entrance to the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum. Meet your guide just outside of the colosseum and begin your small introduction to the site.

Once inside, learn about the spectacular entertainments put on during the Roman days and discover the construction techniques invented by the Romans. Hear about the great feats of the gladiators and their battles with wild animals. Walk around the 1st tiers. Learn about the trapdoors and all the mechanisms used to animate the games.

Your guide will entertain you with tales of sea battles, and tell you about the cages where the lions were kept. Imagine the roar of the crowd as their blood lust was met. Continue to the 2nd tier for the best views of the Colosseum, inside and out. Next, go to the Palatine Hill to see where the elite emperors took residence. Admire the views of the Circus Maximus on one side and the Roman Forum on the other. See the ruins of the Temple of Julius Caesar, built in the same spot where his body was cremated. Look at the Arch of Titus, House of the Vestal Virgins, Senate House, Basilica of Maxentius, and much more.

The guide was good and did her best to keep a large group together in an extremely crowd venue. Difficult to hear at times with occasional radio reception disruptions. After the Colosseum, the group was given a choice to continue with either the Forum or Pallatine Hill, but not both. We chose the Forum which was a better experience than the Colosseum. My suggestion is to visit in January or maybe at 3 am ;-)

Jam packed 3 hours. the guide, Evis, never stopped talking, telling us so much information and finding good places for photos. Good way to get a feel for these places although you could spend much more time there if you were to read all the information boards! Headset system worked well - just occasionally hard to come concentrate as it was so busy and there were so many other tour guides speaking.
