Full description
Begin by meeting your expert guide in the heart of ancient Rome, from where you wander through the Roman Forum. This is the area where Rome really grew into a thriving city, outside of its origins at Palatine Hill. Following that, journey into the Colosseum by traveling straight on to the original Arena Floor. Enter through the Gladiator Gate, the precise location where gladiators came face-to-face with the crowd, their opponents, armed men ready to kill and maim, or wild animals ready to rip flesh. The brutality of contest inside the Colosseum can still well and truly be felt to this day. A tour of the Colosseum follows, throughout which you see the Arena Floor from every angle whilst ascending to the stalls where common Romans cheered and jeered the competitors below. Upon exiting the Colosseum, make your way back around the Roman Forum to Carcer Tullianum, which was the underground prison cell where St. Peter was held.

We had an excellent guide for the Colosseum tour, Robert. He was very knowledgable and friendly. He seemed to enjoy taking our questions and had a wealth of information to share! (5 stars for this part!) We also enjoyed seeing the Prison of St. Peter. However, we did not have a tour guide for this, instead we were given a tablet with some information. Somehow, I expected a guide and the ability to ask some questions there as well. However, the people who worked there were quite friendly and I enjoyed the historical significance of the location!
