Audio guided tour is the best option for this place. Although a guide would’ve added more information as we go, we would’ve been limited on time if we went with a guide. This place definitely needs a lot of time to be spent. Therefore guided tour not recommended.

We arrived at the Castel Sant Angelo just after opening time and were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. No queues and no crowds! Staff at reception were helpful and friendly. The Castel was a very interesting attraction, lots of historical detail mixed with contemporary sculptures throughout the Castel. On reaching the highest level of the Castel we were greeted with spectacular views across Rome, Vatican City and beyond. Well worth a visit!
