Full description

Discover the grandeur of Rome on a day trip from Civitavecchia. Travel in a comfortable and airconditioned coach and stop at highlights like the St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and Pantheon.

Depart from the port of Civitavecchia by bus in the morning and relax on the ride to Rome. Upon arrival, meet your licensed guide and head to the imposing Leonine Walls.

Listen as your guide provides you commentary about Rome’s historical traditions and its art. Head to St. Peter’s Square to admire stunning views of St. Peter's Basilica which is surrounded by Bernini’s colonnades which date back to 1656.

Enter St. Peter's Basilica, but if there are long lines to enter your guide will tell you about the Basilica from the outside. Explore the famous artwork inside the largest church in the world.

Meet your tour leader at a designated point for the second part of the tour. Hop on the bus for a panoramic ride along the streets. Cross the Tiber river near Tiberine Island, pass by Capitoline Hill which was designed by Michelangelo.

View ride the Marcello Theater which was commissioned by the Emperor Augustus. Watch as your guide points out monuments like the Temple of Portuno and Temple of Hercules, 2 of the finest temples in the center of Rome.

End your sightseeing bus ride with a stop near the Colosseum and start the walking portion of your tour with a guide at the foot of the Colosseum. Stroll by Circus Maximus, the largest stadium built in ancient Rome and where thrilling chariot races once took place.

Continue along the famous Dei Fori Imperiali road leading to Piazza Venezia. See the Altar of the Fatherland and visit the spectacular Trevi Fountain, which was originally designed by Bernini, but finally constructed by the architect Nicola Salvi.

Have 30-40 minute break where you can go purchase a light lunch or an ice cream from one of the local shops. Walk to the Pantheon, the great pagan temple that dates back 2,000 years.

Finish your tour with a visit to Piazza Navona, to view masterpieces by Bernini and Borromini, the greatest architects of the 17th-century. Marvel at Borromini 's Church of St. Agnes in Agony and Bernini's 4 Rivers Fountain. Return to Civitavecchia by bus.

A good trip to take if you want a quick overview of Rome. We didn’t get into the Basilica as the lineups were long. Of course we would’ve liked more free time but the timing was impeccable as we got back to our ship with minutes to spare. Our guide was excellent. Thought we were booking a smaller tour though but ended up being about 40 in our bus. Finding that’s typical of many of our excursions in Europe.

This was a good tour. We had 2 groups (English and German). The guide knew both languages and would repeat whatever he said in English to German. No disrespect to anyone but our group found this to slow down the day. This meant the guide although being of age was walking very fast and explaining things whilst walking not allowing you to take everything in. We found that 40 people decided to leave the tour and do their own thing. Next time I would chose a private (up to 8 people tour) to try and get in as much as I could whilst touring.

Very enjoyable trip and gives a good taster for a first time visit to Rome. Andrea the guide was knowledgable and funny. Walking part of the trip is fairly intense so reasonable level of fitness would be required. No time to see inside but good views from outside most of the main attractions and time for photographs. Tour is grouped with Panoramic Rome so numbers are quite large which is not ideal. Visit inside Basilica is no longer included although still advertised. Overall good value for money and would recommend for first time Rome visitors who are short on time.
