Private Greek Food & Wine Tasting Experience in Rhodes Town

1. Private Greek Food & Wine Tasting Experience in Rhodes Town

Wine is an intrinsic part of Greek culture. With a rich history of winemaking stretching back to the dawn of the Bronze Age, Greece is the oldest winemaking region in Europe and one of the oldest in the world. The rugged Greek landscape and long, sunny days are perfect for growing some of the finest grape varieties worldwide, producing exquisite red, white and rose wines. Yet modern Greek wine is only just beginning to get the attention it deserves.   This activity invites you on an inspiring journey through some of the best Greek wine varieties available today. This exclusive Rhodes wine tasting tour is led by an experienced sommelier with an infectious passion for Greek wine. After learning how to taste wine properly, you’ll be introduced to five different varieties of Greek wine.  In Greece, wine is only part of the equation, however. The way locals drink wine is equally important to our culture. Traditionally, they love to drink wine slowly, in good company, and accompanied by a delicious selection of meze. So your Rhodes wine tasting experience takes place in a restaurant in Rhodes, where the chef prepares dishes designed to enhance the flavor of each wine you try.

Rhodes: Guided Walk and Wine Tasting Tour in Medieval Town

2. Rhodes: Guided Walk and Wine Tasting Tour in Medieval Town

This exclusive half-day tour is perfect for wine lovers and history buffs who want to immerse themselves in the medieval history of Rhodes and discover why modern Greek wines are becoming so popular. Begin by exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Rhodes Town. Secured behind a deep moat within a double ring of lofty walls, the Old Town is like a medieval time capsule, transporting visitors back to the era of the Knights of St. John.  A passionate, knowledgeable guide will lead you on a tour through the atmospheric, winding streets, pointing out medieval monuments and describing how the battles and sieges faced by the Hospitaller Knights shaped the town. The walking tour concludes at the Palace of the Grand Masters, a 14th-century fortified castle that was restored in the 1930s. Today it’s a museum housing medieval furniture, elaborate mosaics, and archaeological exhibits from across the island. Once you’ve finished exploring the Palace, wander down the famous Street of the Knights, the best-preserved medieval street in Europe. The last stop of the tour is the Inn of Auvergne, built in 1507. In the beautiful back garden you will taste award-winning local wines while lunching on traditional Greek meze.
