Full description

Discover the exhilaration of looking for red-hot lava flows at the Fagradalsfjall volcano on this day trip from Reykjavik. Admire the volcanic landscapes of the Reykjanes Peninsula as you hike up the volcano with a local guide. Delight your taste buds with some Lava chocolate.

Get picked up in Reykjavík and set off for the volcanic eruption site at the Reykjanes Peninsula, where the first volcanic activity in the area after about 800 years recently happened. See how the lava slowly comes up to the surface from a close distance.

Your guide will hike up to the volcano with you and tell you all you need to know about the new Fagradalsfjall Volcano. The hike is about 1.5-2 hours and has a moderate level of difficulty. Once you arrive, see the crater where the lava was coming from.

Continue the hike around the Fagradalsfjall Volcano until you find the best location to sit and enjoy the view before heading back down.

Head to the bridge between continents and to the geothermal area of Gunnuhver, where you will see boiling hot springs. Before the end of your trip, choose to visit the Blue Lagoon to dip your body into its salty waters.

The weather was bloody awful when we were climbing up the volcano, but the guide tried his best to keep is happy and entertained despite the wind and the storm and once we reached the smoking lava field the weather got a bit better and I enjoyed it so much. We saw a small lava cave and warm lava and all the steam and smoke coming out. Like ... All Mordor. ;) I had a lot of fun and would do it again any time.

Our guide was very fun named Michael. He was very friendly, kept us safe and talked to us the whole time. Great source of information and he made sure to check in with everyone individually to create a personal connection and make us feel included. Any introvert will feel safe and included!

A brilliant tour from start to finish, Michal kept a smile on everyone's face throughout with his running commentary and deep knowledge of the area even before we left Reykjavik. The pickup service collected me right from my AirBnb and dropped me back there making the whole affair more convenient than I could have imagined. The hike itself and the sights and nature around there were second to none and exactly what I was looking for in coming to see Iceland. If you want to see what a volcano looks like up close and see some weird and wonderful geology, this is for you. I'm not a seasoned hiker by any means but while it wasn't a casual stroll through the park, it wasn't super taxing either, a few steep inclines and some rocky terrain are about the worst of it, just bring waterproofs if you don't want an uncomfortable journey back! The weather was pretty rainy and windy but it only added to the experience really! Oh and we got some free chocolate. Highly recommended.
