Full description

Embark on an evening trip to see the Aurora Borealis. Hear fascinating facts about them from your guides, visit the Aurora Museum, and search to see the lights firsthand.

Depart the bright lights of Reykjavík city center to see the dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis. Also known as the “Northern Lights,” it is one of the most spectacular shows during winter months. Head for wherever meteorologists have predicted the lights will be at their best. To get stunning views of the sky you will aim for areas with no artificial light.

Hear explanations of how the Aurora Borealis is caused as a result of the gaseous particles in the earth’s atmosphere colliding with charged particles released from the sun’s atmosphere. Benefit from an itinerary that includes stops for you to go outside and take photographs. The locations visited differ from day to day, but you will head in the direction with the most chance of seeing Mother Nature at work.

As the tour is weather-dependent, and sightings are not guaranteed, you are also invited to join another Northern Lights tour free of charge if the lights don’t appear.  Explore the Northern Lights in the Aurora Museum. The Northern Lights tour includes a complimentary ticket for a self-guided visit to the museum in Reykjavik, valid on the day you join the tour, from the time you receive confirmation that the tour is on.

We seen them! We got picked up at 9:30pm on a big couch and then got transferred to a smaller mini bus to which we went out on. Our driver was called Shaun a very cool guy, and very knowledgeable. It was a very cold night and he took upon himself to get him self wrapped up and stood out side looking for them and would let us know when he seen them to which we came out of the bus to see! We searched for 3 hours until we eventually seen them at 1:45 am!! And it was definitely worth it! We drove to a few different locations and our last stop was where we seen them! You have to be patient really patient if you want to see them! We was told that the other buses that night did not see the lights as they went home by 12pm. I’m glad our tour guide kept us out till 2:30 am we was given free hot chocolates and free chocolate to keep us warm i deffo recommend this tour! Make sure your guide keeps you out and doesn’t go home at 12 becuase they are probably tired! Stay out as late as you can!

The tour started out rough. We had to wait for another bus after already leaving the bus terminal (at least 30 mins of waiting). They took us out of the city, maybe like a half hour drive out? I can’t quite remember the name of where we went but it had something to do with cows lol anyway, we were at our location for about 2 hrs. We were able to see some activity but very faint. Once it started getting really cold, we were provided some hot chocolate. Roberta (or is it Roperta? Sorry, I didn’t ask for the spelling) & Peter were very helpful in trying to show us where to look. Once it hit midnight, we decided to head out. While we were about to get on the highway, the lights started coming out! Our tour guide & driver were so gracious and pulled over. We saw the most amazing show. I will never forget it. Thank you again!

The most magical experience! The northern lights were stunning, nice clean bus, easy instructions for pick up and drop off. Roberta was the most amazing guide, with so much enthusiasm and knowledge, so approachable and friendly, completing the evening with a hoola-hoop LED show in front of the northern lights! Hot chocolate included, topping off the most amazing evening.
