1. From Reykjavík: Volcanoes and Blue Lagoon Day Trip

Update August 9th: The flow of new lava at Litli-Hrutur has stopped, at least for the time being. The area is still smoldering and is fascinating to visit. Enjoy the mountain views at Lake Kleifarvatn and hike to the erupting volcano at Litli Hrutur volcano on this day trip from Reykjavík. Have the option to select pickup and drop-off. Unwind after your hike with a soak in the Blue Lagoon and a complimentary drink. Start your adventure with a pickup in Reykjavík and head towards the Reykanes Peninsula. Peer out of the window to a landscape of mossy-covered lava fields, geothermal fields, fishing villages, breathtaking coastal features, and mountain lakes. Explore hot springs and the black basalt beach of Lake Kleifarvatn. In July 2023, a new volcanic fissure opened in the hills of Reykjanes. Hike past the 2022 eruption sites at Merdalir Volcano in Geldingadalur valley. The hike takes about 2 hours each way on generally flat terrain. You won´t regret the effort though as you are rewarded with a stunning display of natural force. The lava spewing from this new fissure is piling on top of itself, meaning the new crater is growing larger on an hourly basis. A new mountain is being born here. Witness newly formed green lava descending from the volcano into old lava moss and rocks. After the unforgettable experience, hike back down the valley once more. Your bones might be weary so ending your day by relaxing in the Blue Lagoon is the perfect medicine. Let the warm healing geothermal waters soften your muscles and soul after your volcanic experience.

What people are saying about Reykjanes Peninsula

My partner and I visited Iceland back in November '22 for our Honeymoon, this was the first excursion we had planned and it did not disappoint! Our tour guide 'Siggy' was hilarious and really knowledgeable. The hike itself was difficult (our fitness levels aren't great but we did manage it) and it was worth it when we reached the top of the volcano! We had plenty of time at the top to take photos, explore (and recover). Would also highly recommend the Blue Lagoon afterwards too, it was the perfect end to the day!

The guided walk into the lava fields was spectacular in every sense. The guide was informative and helpful during the walk and bus trip. Our experience included a stay at the blue lagoon, which was a perfect end to the day. Highly recommend this to anyone who is wanting to get out of the city and explore southern part of Iceland.

was the first and best excursion i booked - the bus was comfortable and not overcrowded, the guide knew a lot about Iceland's history and mechanism of volcanic eruptions. The 3 hours at the blue lagoon was a perfect time to enjoy it after a cold day of walking

Great hike, recommend you seriously follow the instructions provided by the organizer. Saw a few folks not dressed properly and that adds to a negative experience. Bring cleats if you have them as it will help, but not neccessary.

Hike was excellent- guide provided crampons which were essential. Lovely soak afterwards in Blue Lagoon
