Full description
Climb the third highest summit of La Reunion, "Le Grand Bénare". Admire views of the Cirque de Mafate, a caldera formed by the collapse of a volcano. Meet at the starting point, where you can admire the first views over Mafate at sunrise. You’ll hike along “Le Grand Bord”, a path leading through flora only found at high altitudes.  At the summit 2898 meters above sea level, admire wonderful views over the surrounding landscapes. Then, start descending the mountain by hiking past  “la Glacière”. You’ll learn about how slaves were used here to transport ice from the man-made wells to the towns far below.

      Know before you go

      • The walk is 15 KM long and takes about 7 hours to complete. Terrain is not steep but very rocky. Good health condition required.
      • You will need to pack a picnic lunch, snacks and a minimum of 2 liters of water per person for the day
