Full description

Begin your tour with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Quito. You’ll then start driving for 50 minutes northwest of Quito to reach the amazing Middle of the World Monument, Ciudad Mitad del Mundo. Here, you will have a chance to visit the equatorial line and straddle the two hemispheres of north and south. Take a picture at this iconic site and then take part in several experiments at the Intiñan Solar Museum and be amazed at what you see. Experiments include watching water go down a drain in a different direction only inches away from either side of the equator, balancing an egg on a nail, using an ancient sundial, and more. After lunch, head to the Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve to enjoy a 3-hour hike. As you walk on the trail, enjoy the amazing landscape of this inhabited crater and spot its unique flora. After a fun-filled day, you will head back to your hotel in Quito.

The programme stated that there was 3 hours of horseback riding in the Volcano crater. The guide(who was 30 mins late) knew nothing of this. He telephoned his office and the reply came back that we could do riding but we would have to pay extra. They tried to say that GyG had got the wrong information. We refused to pay any more - we had already paid over $100 each for the trip. We had to go back to the hotel to change into hiking boots since there were no horses. Next came confusion over lunch (it was billed a full day trip with lunch). The guide wanted to squeeze it all in in the morning and drop us back in Quito for lunch. We rebelles against this and had lunch in a traditional restaurant near to the museum. We went to the museum after lunch. The volcano and museum were both very good. Sadly the confusion over the actual trip was annoying.
