7. Puerto Plata: Damajagua Waterfalls Full-Day Adventure

Enjoy an unforgettable adventure at the waterfalls of Damajagua in the Dominican Republic, located at the confluence of emerald waters, deep in a tropical rainforest of the Cordillera Septentrional. 27 refreshing waterfalls have been chiseled by Mother Nature’s celestial mallet. Ideal for visitors who like to commune with nature, while experiencing an adrenaline-fuelled day, you will hop on the back of a safari-style truck, where a team of experienced guides and drivers await. Note that only 12 of the 27 waterfalls will be visited, since doing the 27 waterfalls would take greater physical preparation. After a short safety briefing, glide across the natural water springs, bathing in heavenly caves. Flanked by the whistling of exotic birdlife, and the banks of the Damajagua River, the rustling of the streams arouse a state of stillness. A labyrinth of tunnels and chutes are scattered around the waterfalls, some reaching heights of up to 13 feet. Somersault with the grace of aquatic birds, as your guide keep a watchful eye. Walk an interpretative rainforest trail to come face-to-face with Mother Earth, and wildlife waits to be greeted. Leap headfirst, swimming crossways, and sliding down natural waterslides. Frequently asked questions about Puerto Plata

What top attractions are a must-see in Puerto Plata?

Planning Your Visit

  • Where is it?

Puerto Plata is on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. It isn't as well protected from the Atlantic by corals and other islands as Punta Cana – which might just have the best beaches in the country – but the upside is that the resorts are significantly cheaper. It's a great place to do the Caribbean experience on a budget!

  • Best time to visit?

Puerto Plata experiences tropical weather year-round, with even winter seeing temperatures push 30°C. The peak tourism season is between December to April, but visiting from May to mid-June will see cheaper hotel rates. Why? It's the run-up to hurricane season so don't book any later than that!

  • How safe is it?

The Dominican Republic is a poor country and often reported to have a fairly high (though decreasing) crime-rate, but the worst of it is concentrated in remote areas. Tourist areas and resorts are kept exceptionally safe. However, as with any vacation destination, it's always worth exercizing some caution.

We first experienced the organization get your guide as very pleasant during our trip. The tour was super and the quad was very good and a real monster. A photographer will also accompany you, but agree in advance what the price is because otherwise he will first take pictures and videos and when you are on the beach you get absurd prices and you have to negotiate there and then it is expensive and it ruins your mood. We had chosen to have everything sent by e-mail for 40 dollars in the end but did not get the photos in contact with get tour guide who went after it very well and it came in and the videos the next day With MTS you have to download a different way. You can also choose to have everything put on a USB stick, but that is even more expensive. The contact with the owner of the tour also went well, just ask for his telephone number in case something goes wrong.

We felt we were in very good hands and always safe. Although I am slightly afraid of heights, I was never unsettled. Thanks to the entire team. It was a very, very nice day and a very nice experience. The team was in a good mood and tried very hard, with musical entertainment and a few jokes it was never boring. Then the co-owner Daniel Klapperich showed us his little zoo and his very beautiful garden and shared his extensive knowledge with us. This was another highlight for us and the day, which had been very successful until then, got even better ... Afterwards Daniel even invited us for lunch ... We had never expected this special hospitality and attention. I will recommend this experience to all my friends when they are in the Domi. Many thanks again for everything. It was incredible in your paradise. Kind regards Patrick and Nadine

Our guides and staff were very kind and helpful. The 7 waterfalls was amazing. We are from Utah and it was like one of our slot canyons in the water. High rock walls and beautiful clear water. The zipline coarse was a fun trip with amazing views of the mountains and ocean. The horseback riding was a nice finish to the day with an easy ride through a few ranches in the area. Watch out for the donkeys! The food was great, a rice, beans and chicken lunch that was delicious. They made sure we had water available through out the whole day. Would definitely do it again.

Great experience and nice shows. We were picked up with a delay, but it was worth the wait. All shows were unique, including sharks, sea lions, parrots and not to forget the dolphins. You can look at everything multiple times and have enough time for it. It wasn't crowded either. Lunch was delicious too. All in all it was a very nice day.

Highly Recommended!!! Everything is well organized. Care and food were super good;) again at any time :)
