The "Sanguinho" is a rural village where you'll found about twenty houses uninhabited since the beginning of the 70s. About 200 people lived there, who abandoned it because of the lack of comfort, difficulties of access and emigration. The route is made up of a dirt road, with a high slope, with steps and hydraulic passages. It presents an average degree of difficulty and has an extension of 6 km. Along the way you can admire the various perspectives of the parish of Faial da Terra, as well as a rich and exotic vegetation. In the "Salto do Prego", where a forest of incense and acacia predominates, you can find a beautiful waterfall and take a dip. Continuing, the trail progresses by a descent until arriving again at the locality of Faial of the Earth. The site of the "Sanguinho" owes its name to the strong presence of the endemic plant of the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands, called "sanguinho" (scientific name, Frangula azorica).
