Full description
Explore the ancient city of Pompeii, its ruins, and take a trip back to the past on this expert-led tour. Start your day of adventure from the main entrance where you will enjoy the luxury of skip-the-line tickets. Commence your journey into this ancient city at Porta Marian Superiore, the ancient ruins of the main entrance. Whilst looking at the Volcano Vesuvius, you’ll pass through the antiquarium where your knowledgeable guide will show you objects found in the last excavations, like a coin that changed our knowledge of the date of the eruption and a heavy golden arm cuff.  Continue on your journey by moving to the Basilica, the forum with the market and main temples. Walk along the Greater Decumano, having a look inside the thermal system and the charming Lupanare. You will explore the most beautiful domus, some of which have been recently opened. You'll also see many restorations such as the 'House of Golden Cupids'.  The guided tour will continue along via dell’Abbondanza, before reaching the so-called “Fugitives’ garden”, where during the eruption some people tried to find an escape but unfortunately perished, as can be seen by their body moulds. Reach the Great Gymnasium, where many daily objects are exposed before ending with the wonderful Amphitheatre, the last stop of your journey.

Riccardo was one of the best guides we've had anywhere! He's a born-and-raised Napolitano and he's an accomplished archeologist, so you can't ask for better qualifications. He knows everything and can point to specific details that other guides would have no information on, as he did during the visit to one villa at Pompeii where his archeology professor oversaw the excavation and restoration. He's fun, engaging, and perfectly fluent in English, so he kept even our two jaded teenagers engaged during a three-hour tour in blistering heat. After the tour, our son even bought a book on Pompeii that Riccardo suggested and started reading it immediately, so clearly Riccardo got his messages across. We're now eager to come back another time to do Herculaneum with Riccardo. Look no further, you've found your guide!

Our guide Raffaele was wonderful, he welcomed my sister and I at the gate and spent 3 amazing hours taking us to all of Pompeii's highlights and some brilliant secret gems that we never would have found on our own. The whole time teaching us about the ruins, which he was so passionate about and had personally studied for years. He was able to tailor our tour to our own personal interests and was at all times very mindful and accommodating of my mobility issues. Our organiser Francesca was great, and even assisted us on our morning train route from Naples. We learnt so much and had an overall wonderful experience, my sister and I could not recommend it more.
