Pittsburgh: Downtown Whiskey Walking Tour

3. Pittsburgh: Downtown Whiskey Walking Tour

Our tour for those who: Love whiskey? Walking? Pittsburgh? Then this sounds like the tour for you! From the mill to the still, whiskey has been a cornerstone in Pittsburgh's history. Come downtown for our whiskey history tour where you will discover how whiskey has fueled political, labor and social movements throughout the region. We start the tour with a sample of the oldest and longest continuously produced whiskey in America. A second taster of locally produced whiskey will get you into the mood to explore Pittsburgh's whiskey past and present. As we walk the streets of Downtown, you'll learn about the violent Whiskey Rebellion in Pittsburgh, hidden former (as well as existing!) speakeasies around the city, and how Prohibition affected the region. Besides that you will find out a lot about the revival of craft spirits, the history of a local and family-owned distillery and the first privately run liquor store in PA since before Prohibition. You will get 2 generous whiskey samples (endless refills!) at the beginning of the tour and 1 handcrafted cocktail - an 1884 Manhattan to get a real "taste of history" - in combination with 1 additional whiskey sample at the end. (Fun fact: The 1884 Manhattan was a pre-prohibition cocktail that became popular during prohibition times.) ***Please note: This is NOT a bar crawl but a whiskey history tour that includes whiskey samples and one handcrafted cocktail.

Pittsburgh: Historic Downtown City Exploration Game

4. Pittsburgh: Historic Downtown City Exploration Game

Explore Pittsburgh’s historic downtown in this engaging phone exploration game. Use your phone to follow clues and solve puzzles, as you explore the city and learn more about it. See landmarks like Mellon Square, PPG Place, and more. Start the game at Fort Duquesne, and take on the role of a groggy butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, excited about an upcoming migration. As you solve challenges, the story will unfold and exact directions on your phone will guide you to the next location. It will take between 1-1.5 hours but you should explore at your own pace: simply pause the game and resume when you want from the location where you paused it. You can play on your own, in a large group, or in several smaller groups that compete against each other before meeting at the final stop of the game, PPG Place.

What people are saying about Pittsburgh

I was initially worried about taking a walking tour (I am very out of shape), but it ended up being a really nice pace. Kane is an awesome guide and made sure we had plenty of time to really look at things along the way. He mentioned a few nearby places to eat and shop as we were close to them, and added in several other tidbits about the city.

Informative and fun with some jaw-dropping architecture and good historical notes. My husband was game but less than enthusiastic about a city walking tour. By the end he was thoroughly enjoying it. I loved it from beginning to end.

Unfortunately it rained the day of our tour, but Corey was still an amazing tour guide. She did her best to find areas where we could be inside or covered from the rain and was just as enthusiastic even in the rain.

Our Guide, CORRIE, was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable, fun and very interesting to listen to. Our group really enjoyed the Walking Tour of Pittsburgh.

our guide was great and carried on even in the rain!
