Full description
Start the day with the crossing of Lake Verde and rest on the main beach of Alter do Chão, at Amor Island. Walk towards Serra Piraoca, the main elevation of the region, where you are able to observe the local vegetation known as cerrado. Before you reach the top of the mountain range there is a relatively short steep climb and a 1-hour walk. Once arrived you have a spectacular 360-degree view of Tapajós River, Lake Verde with its bays, the Amazon River to the north and Alter do Chão to the South. Enjoy the picturesque beauty of this location at the Tapajós National Forest. On your way back embark the boat and sail to Igapó do Macaco, a bay of Lake Verde that becomes a blackwater-flooded forest between March and August. "Igapós" is an indigenous word, of Tupi origin, and means "root forest", and is a denomination used in the Amazon biome. Enjoy the beautiful landscape where you might see some fish and birds. Between September and February, the landscape at this place changes and turns into "igarapés". This is also an indigenous word, of Tupi origin, and means “canoe path”. Igarapé is a stream that connects two islands with each other or an island to the mainland. Because of its narrow and shallow channel, only canoes and small boats can navigate it. Stop at a restaurant in Encantada Forest for lunch. After that, there will be time for a short rest in the shade, relaxing in a hammock. After lunch head to another flooded forest with more dense and medium-sized trees. In this place, the silence has a unique harmony and you can enjoy the atmosphere. At the end of the tour visit the community of Pindobal. In the late afternoon take a stroll on the great Tapajós River to Ponta do Muretá or Ponta do Cururu. There you will be able to watch the sunset, together with the tucuxis and pink dolphins.
