The boat ride over was very extreme - high waves. The ride back was raining and no rain jackets offered. This boat ride is not for the faint of heart. The cave tour was nice. The hiking from castle is for those in good shape. It’s it straight up. The trip was a good value - just be in good shape.

The captain was safe, the ferry is an open top inflatable boat and has all the gear ready including a rain jacket. This part was fun for the kids. The mate went out of his way to make sure our kids were comfortable during the scenic 25 minute ride (a little sea spray and some waves). I cannot thank him enough. The glass bottom boat ride guide was hilarious and translated several languages for our group. He explained the history and ecology of the island which was really interesting (for us and the kids). The hiking trail guide was knowledgeable and answered questions about wildlife. I would 100% recommend this tour. It was one of our favorite things we did in Portugal!

Pros: The fast boat is amazing and the island is really a dream place. Cons: The tour guide did not give us clear explanations. He dropped us at the islands and just told us to come back 50 minutes later for the cave tour without telling us that we already had the option to hike around the island and be picked up at the fortress instead of the main port. This is the reason why we had to do the hike very quickly and run back to avoid missing the cave tours.
