Full description
Hidden away from the modern world, this majestic European palace on the outskirts of Paris is a perfectly preserved example of the extravagance of the French monarchy. Dive into Parisian life at its most luxurious with gold-brushed furniture, quilted four-poster beds and lush rolling lawns. Meet your English-speaking guide in Versailles where you'll begin your tour. With a maximum of 20 persons per group, your tour of Versailles will be intimate, unrushed and enjoyable. Skip-the-line with a pre-booked entrance to Versailles where your guide will lead you from one marvelous room to the next, pointing out where Louis XIV tormented his friends and family with long, boring ceremonies and where Marie Antoinette ate her cake. Marvel at the sheer size of the Palace of Versailles, one of the largest and most beautiful estates in the world with 700 rooms. Peruse its incredible array of fine art and the intricate design of its 1,250 fireplaces as you work your way through the highlights of the palace. Stand in awe of the King and Queen's apartments, the chapel, the coronation room, the Hall of Mirror and the Salon of Abundance. Following the interior tour, burst into the sunlight to encounter the ground's dazzling and manicured gardens with over 1,800 acres. On Thursdays, you'll have a tour of the gardens and some free time to wander or, when booking, choose a tour date when either the famous Versailles Fountain Shows or Musical Gardens are running. Watch the fountains explode to the sounds of a cello for the Fountain Shows or be enchanted by the simple beauty of classical music during the Musical Gardens event. The ticket to these shows will be included in your tour price. When you're ready to leave, hop on the next train back to the city. As the train chugs along, reflect on the day of pure indulgence, slowly bringing yourself back through the centuries to modern-day Paris.

A difficult start: the day before our visit we received a message that the tour would start an hour later (10:30 instead of 9:30). Next morning 9:33:"Where are you?"...After a phone call to the organization ( Ireland) the late hour was reconfirmed and at 10:40 (I was still worried for 10 minutes) our guide Alexander and the rest of the party (from USA) arrived at the agreed point. not 2 hours (because that's how booked and paid) would take, but that fear was unfounded. Alexander took the time to guide us through the palace and gardens with interesting stories and fun anecdotes. Still 1 minus: at the end of the tour we wanted something to eat but the restos in the garden are just on the other side of the gate. No problem you think, we paid for access to the gardens and castle for the whole day. But we didn't have the tickets themselves and Alexander hadn't printed individual tickets either. So walk all the way around!

Enjoyed the tour. Finding all of these tours you arrive early/on time and wait, don’t sweat the 9:30 arrival time for a 9:45 tour. Guide was okay. We have done a few tours this week and had more enthusiasm from other providers. That being said, we appreciate the direction as doing the museum on our own would have been aimless wandering.
