Full description
The Père Lachaise Cemetery, Paris’s largest cemetery, is probably best known to foreign visitors as the final resting place of James Morrison, the lead singer of The Doors. To Parisians, it’s also known for The Communard’s Wall where the last insurrectionists were shot at the end of the Commune's (another French revolution) “Bloody Week.” On this walk with Fred, you’ll pay your respects to the likes of Guillaume Appolinaire, Marcel Proust, Molière, Chopin and Oscar Wilde, who died in Paris in 1900. Each year, Père Lachaise Cemetery welcomes over 3.5 million visitors, making it the most visited cemetery in the world. Oscar Wilde wrote, “Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace.” And peace is what you’ll encounter at this calm, yet utterly captivating cemetery.

Amazing

Booked Fredwalks through Get Your Guide. Was somewhat sceptical booking through a third party. All went well. Frederic contacted me several days prior to the tour to confirm. Also promptly returned my question via email when I forgot where to meet :). Amazing? The tour! The tour met all my expections and more. Of course you want to see all the famous graves at Pere Lachaise. With Fredwalks you get so much more. You travel through time from before the cemetery existed to present day. Additionally many memorials are visited and explained. Highly recommend the Pere Lachaise Tour with Fredwalks.

I had a wonderful time

This tour was everything I wanted. Fred was professional, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. The tour was not rushed and we covered all the higlights and some extras. He walked me to the metro and helped me with my ticket and directions. I was the only person in my group. I will recommend Fred to others and will use him again if I return to Paris.
