Full description
Join a small group for a thought provoking day of remembrance. Discover the many cemeteries, memorials and traces of battles from the First World War along the path of the Western Front. Stop off for a exploration of The Artois where the gently rolling landscape is full of reminders of the bloody battles fought there. Visit a site of major significance to Canadians, The Canadian National Commemorative Park at Vimy. Here, see many scars on the land such as trenches, mine craters, and ridge tunnels which were used to shelter Allied troops as they came under fire from German artillery. The strategic value of Vimy Ridge and its famous network of tunnels made it a strategic possession, and the German occupation of Vimy Ridge was a major threat to any advance in the Somme region. The British- and Canadian-led battle took possession back during April 1917. Also enjoy free time in the beautiful historical town of Arras. As the day progresses major sites such as the Cabaret Rouge Cemetery in Souchez will be revealed, all reminders of those other soldiers, from Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries who also contributed and fought to give us the peace we enjoy today. This tour will give you the opportunity to honor all those who gave up their lives.

A wonderful day, if your are lucky enough to have Nicola as your guide

An excellent tour with Nicola, a born teacher with a deep understanding and an obvious love of history. While she highlighted the Canadian experience, she was able to put it in the larger context of the whole WW1 story, for both combatants and the local life in the area. She was masterful at judging appropriate pace, and was most solicitous of my needs throughout the day. Best of all, she helped me reach a very personal goal. I owe her many thanks, and you should hope she will be your guide too.

A great tour.

A great tour by professionals. Both Julien, our driver, and Nicola, our tour guide, were polite, professional and organized. Nicola, an educated historian, had a wonderful grasp of the history and context of the Vimy story, and it's importance to Canadians and the world. She shared her insights and knowledge freely. I would comment on two aspects. It would have been ideal for our guide to hold spots for us in the lineup waiting for the tour of the trenches. It was a very hot day, a lot of us were older adults, and this would have allowed us to use the facilities and go to the visitor's center for water, Another thing was, no brochure to consult. We made many stops at significant memorials and it would have been ideal to have printed materials for reference, and to take back and show our friends and family. Also, a brochure would promote your company and provide information for feedback. Otherwise, just great!

I appreciated the fact that transportation from Paris was included. Getting to Vimy Ridge without a car can be difficult, and the time spent in the minibus was an opportunity to get to know other visitors and also talk with the tour guide about the war and French history in general.
