From Paracas: Ballestas Islands & Paracas National Reserve

1. From Paracas: Ballestas Islands & Paracas National Reserve

After a convenient hotel pickup from either Paracas or Pisco, head to the Marina Turistica to start your adventure. Board a speedboat with your bilingual, Spanish and English-speaking guide, and jet out onto the sea towards the stunning Ballestas. Along the way, stop at the Paracas Peninsula to see the Candelabro, an enigmatic glyph carved into the side of the island — whose purpose, and creator, remain a mystery to this day. Afterwards, continue onwards towards the marine sanctuary of Ballestas. Gaze upon the rocky shores, filled to the brim with sunbathing seals, and penguins diving into the turbid waters to hunt underneath the surface — all alongside other beautiful specimens, like majestic pelicans, and colorful blue-footed boobies. You’ll then return to the Marina Turistica for a drive to Paracas National Reserve. An almost alien landscape, the Paracas National Reserve is composed of vast, sprawling deserts and high sandstone cliffs directly next to the bright, blue ocean. Driving through the reserve, see the Cathedral, an area where a vast rock formation once stood before being destroyed by a cataclysmic earthquake. Your tour caps things off with visits to Playa Roja and Lagunillas Beach, two stunning maroon-sand beaches that are truly one-of-a-kind. Having seen some of the world's most unique natural features, flora, and fauna, you'll hop back in the car for a convenient transfer back to your hotel.

Discover an Inca settlement that was most likely built at the end of the 15th century and was ruled by the Inca Emperor Pachacutec. It was known as Puka Tampu, Pucallacta or Pucahuasi and its buildings show typical Wary (Ayacucho) and Inca (Cusco) culture influences. Walk amongst buildings including ceremonial plazas, houses, ceremonial platforms and the main building known as La Fortaleza. Learn how Tambo Colorado was used as an administrative/ceremonial and military place to control the main road from the coast to the highlands. This place served as resting place for the Inca and his army across the Inca territory. The site consists of several structure around a large central plaza. The central plaza is shaped like a trapezoid with its largest side being 492-ft (150-m) long. The main structure are grouped together in a northern and southern Palaces, plus some ceremonial platforms. Because of local environmental conditions, many of the buildings original colors have been preserved, helping experts reconstruct the site. Having enjoyed an informative guided tour you will return to San Martin Port to rejoin your ship.

Amazing from start to finish. To begin, we took the boat out to the islands, and even though we didn't speak spanish, our guide (I forget her name!) was able to tell us everything in flawless English. We even saw dolphins! After the boat ride, we went with Eduardo to the desert, and he told us the history of the place and the people, from the Paracas civilization to the Incas. We stopped at various viewpoints and never once felt rushed which was nice. He is a very intelligent man and spoke amazing English also. At the end of the trip we went to a restaurant in the reserve and ate top quality seafood. 11/10 A brilliant day out

Tour molto consigliato!

Great Experience! We started our day with a boat ride to ballestas islands! And then we went on a tour of the national reserve in Paracas desert in a small group (5 people). Our guide was awesome, very personalized experience. She’s speaks Spanish, English and is currently learning French. If you have to choose one thing to do in Paracas, I highly recommend this package :)
