The 243-kilometer² (94-mile²) island is located on the eastern coast of the Pará River (the southern arm of the Amazon), in front of Marajó Bay. On your day trip, discover some of the island’s 16 beautiful freshwater beaches with waves and tides, over 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) of clear sands, and lush vegetation. Choose between a day trip to Souré and Salvaterra and start the day with a boat ride across the awe-inspiring Pará River. Souré Trip: Arrive by boat at Camará Port and head straight to Araruna Farm. There you’ll learn about buffalo farming and the importance of these huge animals to the local population. In fact, you may even see the police officers of the area riding a buffalo on patrol. After a snack break, visit a ceramics and buffalo leathercraft center before continuing on to Pesqueiro Beach. Relax by the beach, enjoy the waves as the Pará River meets the Atlantic Ocean and take time for a bit of lunch (not included).  Salvaterra Trip: Arrive by boat at Salvaterra and continue to the Rural Tourism Unit Açaí Nativo (UTRAN) to learn about buffalo raising and breeding. Stop at Toca do Açaí and learn all about açaí, the delicious purple Amazon fruit. From there, continue to the shores of Salvaterra and unwind on beautiful Grande Beach. Cool off with a swim, relax by the sand, then sit back as you’re taken back to Belém.

Explore Belém with an expert guide with this full-day tour. After pickup at your hotel, head to the colorful Ver-o-Peso market, a cultural symbol of Belém and the largest open market in Latin America. Explore hundreds of stalls filled with regional products such as river fish, medicinal herbs, ornamental plants, handicrafts, and a huge variety of typical fruits.  Spend the rest of the day discovering the best museums in the city, starting with the Emilio Goeldi Museum, a botanical and zoological research institute. The botanical park occupies a huge area in the center of Belém and is a living exhibition of Amazonian fauna and flora. See birds, sloths, freshwater fish, and a variety of reptiles and amphibians. Continue the tour to the Forte do Presépio fortress and visit the ethnographic exhibitions at the Encontro Museum. Start the tour with pickup from your hotel in Belém, then embark on your comprehensive half-day tour of the city's highlights. First, visit the colorful Ver-o-Peso market, located on the banks of Guajará Bay. Stroll through the largest open-air fair in Latin America and the most important commercial warehouse that supplies the city. Then, continue on to the Feliz Lusitânia complex, composed of the Sé Cathedral, Casa das Onze Janelas, with a visit to the Castelo Fortress, a landmark of the city in 1616. Also, see the Basilica Sanctuary Nossa Senhora de Nazaré, one of the most beautiful churches in Belém built in the neoclassical style neoclassical. Admire the marble decor and learn about how the building's history is mixed with the largest religious festival of the people of Pará, the Círio de Nazaré. After this, visit the Emilio Goeldi Museum (except on Tuesdays, when the museum is closed and your visit is replaced with a trip to Bosque Rodrigues Alves). The museum showcases a disciplinary mix of collections including scientific activities in the areas of zoology, human sciences (archeology, anthropology, geography and linguistics), and Earth sciences. Finally, pass through the main tourist points in the city such as República Square, Paz Theater, the Old Town, and more, before concluding your trip with drop-off back at your hotel.

Embark on a full-day boat journey across the Arapiuns River and let your guide introduce you to the rich culture of the Urucureá people and the incredible nature that surrounds this Amazonian destination. Meet your group and leave Alter do Chão heading north, passing by the Piranhas Lake. Do a photo stop at Ponta do Cururu, and then start the crossing trough Tapajós River, passing through the Vila Franca community and entering the Arapiuns River. On the Arapiuns River visit the Urucureá riverside village, a wonderful cove, which is subdivided into three arms of water, providing a unique view. See the picturesque church, and pay a visit to a local house where you will witness the talent of the native ladies in handcrafted pieces made with mastery. See the preparation and making of handicrafts — a true cultural show — and receive valuable knowledge about the arts and history of the Arapiuns River. During lunchtime, taste the Amazon with a meal prepared by a local, with fresh fish, free-range chicken, and sometimes meat. After lunch, relax laying on a hammock, enjoying the breeze. Continue the tour along the rocky banks of the Arapiuns River to your next stop, the fascinating Ponta do Toronó and Grande Lake. Walk over sand dunes that stretch for meters and divide the Arapiuns River into a large lake, with dozens of birds flying over and porpoises showing their fins.  Enjoy a picnic with fresh fruits such as watermelon, pineapple, banana, passion fruit, orange, apple, and coconut. This is a very good place for photos and to swim in crystal clear waters.  At the end of the tour, head to Ponta do Icuxi to see the sunset. After gazing at the sunset, return to Alter do Chão, cruising under a clear and starry sky.

6. From Belém: 2-Day Marajoara Cheese Route Tour with Meals

1st DAY - Belém / Ilha de Marajó- Soure Tour / Regional Lunch / Barra Velha Beach / Welcome Dinner Transfer hotel - port, from 06:00. Arrival at the port to embark to Marajó Island - the largest fluviomarine archipelago on the planet, in a journey of approximately 2 hours. Arrival Transfer to the Hotel. After check in, Start of the program with a Tour in the city of Soure, visiting its main tourist attractions, where we will visit the Casa do Artesão and CURTUME- (Center for the Processing of Buffalo Leather Crafts), which respectively has handicrafts in ceramics, seeds and leather. Stop for regional lunch (lunch included). After the lunch break, we will continue the program visiting the Barra Velha beach of exuberant beauty and large mangrove vegetation. Return to the Hotel. In the evening there will be a regional dinner (dinner included). Return to the Hotel. 2nd DAY- Soure- Mironga Cheese Shop / Pesqueiro Beach / Araruna Farm After breakfast, we will visit the Mironga farm and cheese shop where we will take a short walk through the farm to appreciate the aspects of the Marajoara fauna and flora, and then we will have an explanation about the history of the farm and its cheese production and the order we can taste the dairy production from buffalo milk: traditional and seasoned cheese, butter and dulce de leche accompanied by toast, juice and coffee. The program continues at Pesqueiro beach where we will have time for a bath and lunch (lunch not included). On the way back, we will stop at Fazenda Araruna for a ride and ride on buffalo, at the end a Marajoara snack will be served. Return to the hotel. Free night. 3rd DAY - Soure- Salvaterra / Joanes / Porto Camará / Belém After breakfast Check-out at the hotel and crossing to Salvaterra, where we will take a tour of its main tourist spots and continue to the historic village of Joanes, where we will find ruins from the period of Jesuit colonization in Marajó. Stop for bath and lunch (lunch not included). At 12:30 pm we will proceed to Porto Camará for departure to Belém. Arrival in the late afternoon, followed by transfer to the hotel (hotel not included). End of our services.
