The trip we had with our tour guide Bambos was exceptional. The city of Famagusta was occupied by the Turkish army in 1974 and the Greek Cypriots, 45.000 people, were forced to abandon their prosperous city. It turned into a ghost town, completely fenced off with no access. Bambos was able to explain what happened in detail and we were astound by it. We did visit the city and it was remarkable, the history, the churches, the Venetian walls, the old palaces, really worthwhile to visit and highly recommendable. We still ask ourselves why can’t it be resolved, the Greek Cypriots have the right to their homes. Give back what belongs to them and develop the area between Turkish and Greek Cypriots like in the past. It’s for mutual benefit and future.
What a great tour! The tour guide Alexia did a wonderful job showing all the great sites and giving a wonderful history. She added a personal touch which was very appreciated! Bus was comfortable and driver was also excellent. Great way to see a beautiful island and a very historic city! No complaints what so ever!
