Full description
Meet your local guide at the main opera house and get to know the other travelers. You'll then walk through the streets before having a welcome toast. Enjoy a glass of fresh Sicilian wine and some interesting bites that you won't normally find in touristy places. On this tour, you'll get to know the real Palermo, its food, its people, and its secrets. Learn about the Sicilian lifestyle as you stroll towards the old port of Palermo. Stop at street food stalls in the heart of Vucciria and sample the best bites selected by your guide. You will get to try the famous spleen sandwich and hear some interesting facts about its origins. The small group allows for easy interaction with your guide and the rest of the group. Your guide will then show you hidden spots and discuss several topics during the walk, from history to art to social issues. Feel free to ask your guide whatever you want. The walk ends at the old port of Palermo for one last sweet treat, a Brioche with ice cream. Angelo’s enthusiasm and warmth was charming. He really made the tour about its people and he fed us enough that we were all full. Beware if you are on a special diet- the tour is mainly carbs. I wanted to hear more about how food ties into the history and modern lifestyle of the SIcilians, but there was more focus on the actual eating of the food. It would be good to get more perspective behind the details of how they make the food as well and why that food was chosen.

Our guide, Marco was the best part of the tour - along with the other travellers! Marco provided a relaxed evening for us all, full of tasty street foods you wouldn't stumble across as an unguided tourist (some items were not even on an establishment's menu). Marco's sense of humour and story-telling ability ensured there was never a dull moment. He easily imparted his knowledge of local culture and history to us along the way, making the walk from one delicious street treat to the next interesting and giving us an insight into local life that only a local can give. We had plenty of food; most of us couldnt quite finish all of it - I recommend you arrive hungry! :)

We had a great evening with Rapha <3 She was an excellent guide with great insider tips that we will continue to follow for the rest of our stay. The tour is designed to take you to places you might not otherwise go. There was also historical information without getting boring. You should definitely not eat anything beforehand, there are enough on the tour.
