Today departure for Marsala, the Arab “Marsa Allah” –Harbour of God–, is known in the whole world for one thing: Wine! The Marsala Wine comes from the western lands of Sicily and its name derives from the homonymous town. The Marsala is the oldest Italian DOC wine, with an average alcohol content of about 18 degrees. Later a stort drive takes us to the Saltpans. Dating back as far as the reign of the Phoenicians some 2700 years ago, the ancient salt pans of western Sicily have played a hugely important role in the daily life of thousands of Mediterranean and European people for generations. Enjoy a lunch & Wine tasting in a local winery/farmhouse-Olive oil producer including tasting of mixed local product This afternoon departure for Erice uptown. The Elymians settled the medieval town of Erice, which was an important religious site associated with the goddess Venus. This day trip is great! I highly recommend for visitors to Palermo that may otherwise miss Marsala. Rosalba was an amazing tour guide, and very knowledgable. When an issue arose with the car unexpectedly, she and the company resolved it instantly, so they are very reliable and professional. The sites (salt mills, winery with lunch, Erice/Castle of Venus, Marsala city) are all wonderful.

Marko was terrific from start to finish. He had a cheery greeting when we arrived. We were a bit early and he was already waiting for us. Lovely car. Clean and reliable. Marko gave us a wonderful commentary as we drove out of Palermo. He is so interesting and friendly. Our tour included Trapani Masala and Erice. Each place was interesting and Marlo brought them to life which gave us a better understanding of the deep Sicilian culture. Lunch at Donna Franca winery was very good. The winery tour enhanced our lunch and appreciation of the wines. This is a great tour and Marko is an excellent driver guide and companion. I felt like I was visiting with my family.
