The building dates to 1297 and still retains its secular, administrative function. It's location on the Piazza del Campo makes it very convenient to visit as "Il Campo" is the centre of most of the sights of Siena. It houses a very interesting museum with some notable paintings. In particular, Lorenzetti's "Allegory of Good and Bad Government", and Martini's "Maesta". There are some very nice panoramic views of Siena and the surrounding countryside from the Loggia dei Nove on the fourth floor of the building.

I loved the frescoes and the whole experience in Siena. One thing I want to make sure all visitors know is that there are escalators leading from the mall across from the train station into Siena. We didn't realize this and instead walked the whole way (!) which took about 1/2 hour.

I thought this was the tower rather than a museum. However, I was happy to visit a museum. But the museum was very small and didn’t have much to see.
