  • Shipboys and Men: 2-Hour Walking Tour of Hoorn

    1. Shipboys and Men: 2-Hour Walking Tour of Hoorn

Your morning or afternoon in Hoorn will start at your hotel, river cruiseship or if you travel to Hoorn from elsewhere, at the train station. Set off at a relaxing pace to make sure you really get to see, feel and learn all about this town. The most important sights that your private guide will show are the Main tower, a landmark in the harbor of Hoorn. The hidden love chapel, once built as a private chapel for a half catholic/half protestant couple. Touch, just like locals did decades ago, the façade of the Saint John Hospice. See the lively harbor and shopping street. Learn about Jan Pietersz Coen, son of Hoorn and founder of former Batavia City, present Jakarta in Indonesia. Wandering through the streets of Hoorn will take you back in time to the days of the VOC (United East Indian Company) that made Holland in the 17th Century one of the most influential countries in the world. Explore Westerpark, a neighborhood centered around its eponymous park just beyond Amsterdam's famous canal belt. Take a tranquil stroll through the sprawling lawns (one of the largest green spaces in the city) to Zuiveringshal West — a gargantuan cultural venue that’s the size of a small village housed inside a former gasworks, lined with all s...

Riccardo was absolutely superb. He was born and raised in Amsterdam and attended university in England. His knowledge of the city and the area we toured is astounding. We all enjoyed visiting the Jordaan a delightful and charming slice of Amsterdam away from the maddening crowds. His answered all of our questions about all aspects of the city. This was one tour where I felt slightly guilty as I left feeling I received more than I paid for by the end of the tour. Reserve now.... you will not regret!
