Full description

Join a university-educated guide, with years of experience and local knowledge of Oxford City and colleges. See the dreamy spires of one of the oldest universities in the world on a guided walking tour. Go inside some of the city’s most historic colleges, such as New College, founded in 1379 and more recently seen in the Harry Potter films and television productions of Inspector Morse and Lewis. Visit Exeter College, founded in 1314, and another favorite on most tours. Stop by Hertford College, with its romantic façade and Bridge of Sighs, instantly recognizable from Brideshead Revisited. See the University Library and learn about the collegiate system unique to Oxford and Cambridge. Discover famous alumni who studied and taught at the university, including the infamous Dr Spooner, whose portraits hang in New College Dining Hall and whose name is given to the playful linguistic phenomenon of spoonerisms.

Our guide was Jeff. It was a rainy day, so it was just the three of us in our party, plus Jeff. He did an excellent job of showing us around — was really accommodating with my fathers hearing trouble, and managed to get us unexpectedly into Exeter College to see the hall, chapel and walled garden. It was such a memorable experience. He also got us tickets to see the Trinity Room in the Library…which was a wonderful surprise. We loved him and were really pleased with the time and attention he paid to us and all our questions!

The tour given by Simon was really informative, he told many stories and details about different places. It was really interesting and worth it. The tour was for around 1.5 to 2 hrs. Without the details roaming around in Oxford will be like watching a movie on mute. I would really recommend the tour to all.

Magnus, our guide, did a superb tour. He made Oxford come alive for everyone present - having established what everyone would like to see and know about. He ensured we covered the small details as well as the grand sweep of Oxford. We felt most grateful to have such an excellent guide and for the one and a half hours in his company. We left having seen a variety of superb sights and buildings which re-enforced what a truly stunning city Oxford is. I highly recommend the tour.
