I would recommend this tour/workshop to anyone visiting Oaxaca. You are driven to a small town 40 minutes from the city and visit a alebrije-making workshop. There you are given a tour and shown the different stages that it takes to make these iconic and colorful Mexican art pieces. It was so interesting and eye-opening to see just how talented the artists are and how much work (time) goes into making the alebrije figures. When it’s time for you to paint your own you truly realize the skill set that is required to make the artworks. Painting your own alebrije was super fun! You get to pick your own small piece and are helped by one of the resident artists. At the end you end up with a unique souvenir. You can also buy more professionally made pieces there, which make a great gift for friends and family.

It was an amazingly fun full day! We were picked up later than described in trip description, but was made up at end of day. Captain and assistant were very attentive, informative and enthusiastic. They played music to our request. Cruised to several of the bays, snorkeled as much as we wanted , swam as much as we wanted and were taken to a beach for a beachside lunch. Captain took us to an area for dolphin watching and kept the beer flowing! We were allowed to take food of our own as well for snacks throughout the day. It really was a very fun day.. If ever I return to Huatulco, I’ll be booking this again! Maybe even a sunset cruise, if available. Keep up the good work!

It was a really incredible experience, as a family it was an enriching tour my daughters of 9 and 6 years old were able to see how they wove backstrap looms in a picturesque workshop full of art in San Tómas Jalieza, observe in the Alebrejies workshop in San Martín how it is the process of creating these majestic pieces, the Casa Negra workshop where we learned step by step the process of black clay in a workshop that is totally familiar, the visit to Monte Alban was magical, the guide Roberto explained perfectly well the history of the Zapotec. Both the guide Roberto and the Driver with their punctuality, explanations and tips make this experience truly incredible.

We enjoyed learning the history about the alebrijes and we have so much respect for the artists who create them! It takes a community effort to create something so meaningful and beautiful!

Beautiful way to spend the day in Comfort with quality folks!
