9. Secret Hike to Jungle Tide Pool
This tide pool is my secret. Hardly anybody knows about it. The hike is 20-30 minutes. It uses a jungle and coastal trail. It's the epitome of "off the beaten path". Your experience will be customized because its private. - You'll see amazing views of the island and its largest volcano. - The colors are stunning. The lava rocks offer a stark contrast to the jungle and ocean. - The pool is situated like an infinity pool overlooking the cliffs. The water is unique because it's full of minerals from the lava rock. - People spend hours looking for hermit crabs, large black crabs, fish, shells, and other creatures, and exploring the views from the rocky border. - The pool fills up when waves strike the cliffs, sending water into the air like a blowhole upwards of 50 feet. - The pool is suitable for all ages because of its deep and shallow area, and calm conditions. - Most likely you'll have the pool to yourself because it's so unknown. - I can recommend other attractions on the island. More information about the hike: - There are hardly any bugs or mosquitoes in this area. - There is some elevation gain on parts of the hike, giving you an unprecedented vantage point. When the conditions are clear, you can see the volcano, Mauna Kea, in the distance. You'll be totally immersed in nature. There are photograph opportunities around every bend, and I am always happy to take over as photographer. More information about the tide pool: - The pool is carved so perfectly into the landscape that it almost feels man-made, but it isn't. It's what all these natural rock pool designs try to emulate. You'll feel as if you're relaxing at some billionaire's pool, and yet all around you will be jungle, lava rock, and ocean. - The tide pool water is so refreshing after the hike. The water is pure because hardly anybody goes there. Most of the time, the water is crystal clear. There are all kinds of different fish and creatures to be discovered. The shallow section has 1-4 feet of water while the deep section has 4-7 feet of water. After the hike is over, I'll take you through the 2018 lava flow in order to get back into town. This is a stunning, apocalyptic stretch of land with many points for stopping.
