From Munich: Nuremberg Day Trip by Train

1. From Munich: Nuremberg Day Trip by Train

In Nuremberg the Third Reich strutted in all of its pomp in the city’s grandiose marching grounds, and years later an international war crimes tribunal held that same Nazi leadership accountable for its actions. There is much more to see here, however. This is an old and beautiful city with a rich and vibrant history. You’ll see the massive medieval fortifications of the striking old town, magnificent gothic churches, colorful marketplaces, and the hilltop castle of the old imperial city. Your expert guide will accompany you on the 90-minute train journey from and to Munich, and provide a comprehensive tour through Nuremburg. The city’s history is fascinating. It was the unofficial capital of the First Reich, or the first Germanic Empire, which dominated central Europe for a thousand years. It was here that the Imperial Diet of the Holy Roman Empire was hosted. It was a center of cultural and intellectual vitality at the crossroads of major imperial trade routes. Nuremburg also played a key role in the Reformation, and in the printing and scientific revolutions that shaped the modern world.

3. From Munich: Nuremberg Day Tour

Join a day trip from Munich to Nuremberg and enjoy a comfortable journey by air-conditioned coach. In Nuremberg, amble along paths previously trodden by emperors. Visit the historical old town with its mighty castle and old city walls, as well as churches, monuments and half-timber houses that still portray the splendor of the former imperial city. Nuremberg is also home to Germany's arguably most famous painter, Albrecht Dürer. The artist worked and lived in Nuremberg for almost twenty years, as of 1509. Follow in his footsteps and visit his house, the only artist's house dating back to the 16th century which is still intact in Northern Europe.  Also, you have the chance to visit the Memorium Nuremberg Trial. The darkest chapter in German history also cast a shadow over Nuremberg as Adolf Hitler turned Nuremberg into the city of the Nuremberg Rally and constructed monumental buildings here while driven by delusions of grandeur. After the end of the Second World War, the city found itself back in the limelight as major war criminals had to face an international military tribunal here in the Nuremberg Trials.

This tour had just the right balance between the city of Nurnberg and it’s history and then in the afternoon learning about things associated with Hitler and the third Reich. Our guide Achim was absolutely amazing with a PhD in history! We would highly recommend this tour and thoroughly enjoyed it but with a disclaimer that it is quite a bit of walking. We rode the train, a city bus and a shuttle and it was all very well planned.

Such a beautiful city. If you’re in nearby Munich then definitely set a day aside to take a visit to this amazing town rich with history!
