- Duration: 6 hours
Ascend to the summit of the craters of Mount Etna, one of the most coveted excursions a hiker can make. Hike in full safety with an authorized alpine and volcano guide, and marvel at the beauty and wonder of the highest active volcano in Europe. Depart from Sapienza Refuge in Nicolosi, and ascend 2,504 meters by cable car. Then, ride in a 4x4 Jeep up to 2,900 meters, to begin your hike. You’ll hike 1.5 hours uphill, passing many craters and taking long pauses to take pictures and rest.
Experience the incredible feeling of being on top of the world in this rocky, beautiful landscape with the giant sky above you. After reaching the summit, descend for 2 hours back to the cable car, which will take you to your departure point.
Unfortunately due to volcanic activity it wasnt allowed to hike to the summit. We got messaged about this a day in advance with an offer for an alternative past previous lava flows and craters, which we took. It still was a beautifull experience with a very friendly, experienced and knowledgeable, multi lingual guide. We didn't get to take the 4x4 bus because we were hiking on a lowere altidtude but got that refunded through get your guide.
This day trip begins with a drive up to Rifugio Sapienza, with stops at viewpoints en route. The guide will provide commentary on the volcano's history and point out sites of previous eruptions. Trek along one of the nature paths up to 2,000 meters or take the Etna high altitude option. For the high altitude option, ride a cable car and special 4x4 minibus to Torre del Filosofo, at 2,900 meters. Afterwards, explore a lava cave, equipped with a helmet and flashlight. The final stop will be at one of the area’s top wineries, with a tasting session that includes a sparkling wine and 4 still wines. During the tasting session, enjoy local cold cuts, cheeses, pate and olive oil.
Danilo our guide was great! He was really nice and welcoming, explained a lot and gave us recommendations for the rest of our visit in Catania. The added value of this tour was the easy pick-up and the vineyard visit with tasting of great wines. Now with covid they don't accept visitors that are not part of a private tour, so it was a great opportunity (and the tastings are actually quite a big lunch). the cave was nice but a bit underwhelming. We paid additional 67 euros pp to go the the max altitude allowed (2750).

Superb hike with Edouardo Amore, we could not go to the top due to the activity of the volcano but the secondary hiking route was super interesting with breathtaking views. Edouardo was a great guide, he even sent us some videos of the active volcano and lava flows after the hike. I recommend!
Excellent and Edoardo our guide was perfect, thanks! Too much activity in the volcano to be able to go at the top on that day, but we had a very interesting alternative at the secondary craters and Edoardo made it very thorough, and fun. One of my best memories from Sicily this summer
We were lucky enough to witness an eruption of etna during this day which made it fantastic. The route proposed by the guide was clear and accessible to all. Our guide Eduardo was really wonderful with all his explanations that accompanied the excursion
Nice, attentive and easy to understand guide! The tour was extremely exhausting, but also because we had crazy headwinds uphill :) Everything was done for our safety, even if that means that you don't see any lava. It was still a unique experience!
We had a great time on Etna with Edoardo. Despite a change of program following the activity of Etna. Edoardo is a very professional and pleasant guide. He loves etna and likes to pass on his knowledge. Thanks again to EDoardo
