Full description
Learn the basics of Louisiana Cooking with cajun and creole chefs teaching New Orleans specialties such as Gumbo, Jambalaya and Pralines, seasoning them with history, trivia and tall tales. The chef will share the fascinating history of New Orleans, and how culture and cuisine are interwoven. Follow along and learn how to make mouth-watering creole and cajun dishes and dig in after the class. At the end of the class, you will receive a coupon to use in the general store and are encouraged to go home and try to make the dishes yourselves.  The general store, as well as the classroom, are both located in a renovated molasses warehouse built in the early 1800s in the heart of the French Quarter. The store has a thoughtful collection of the best locally sourced products and is the home of the famous Joe's Stuff Creole Seasoning, used and loved by local chefs and visitors alike. It was so much fun and very informative! I learned so much about the history of Nee Orleans and all the wonderful food. Pat was so fun to watch and she could pronounce every French chef’s name perfect! She was funny and very entertaining to watch. Can’t wait to try it out for myself.

Booked this last minute and so glad I did! Chef Tom was a great performer, if you will, and the food was soooo delicious! He showed techniques and gave excellent instruction as well as insightful culinary history of the dishes and New Orleans. Left with recipes, a full tummy, the desire to make these bayou dishes and the knowledge and confidence to believe I can!! The general store has an assortment of spices, utensils (invest in the Cajun Roux Spoon), and cookbooks. I went solo and had a great time, with friends even better as long as they are the friends that don’t talk thru the whole movie kinda friends!! Lol! You’ll wanna hear EVERYTHING Chef Tom has to say!

As avid fans of cooking shows, this was a wonderful experience for me and my 11 year old. Not only did we learn some great tips and tricks for cooking, we heard a history of the local culture and we learned something that we both took back home to share.
