On January 7th when we visited the Chalmette battlefield, there were a lot of re-enactments and those who participated were very good about sharing historical information. The cruise on the Mississippi River was pleasant and a professional historian was aboard who explained different things via their speaker system. Overall a great historical tour/cruise.

Charles is the BEST guide/historical storyteller I have ever encountered, anywhere in the world, and I've been on quite a few tours, many which I left prematurely because reading plaques was more thrilling than listening to the boring guide. Charles is not boring! He got me interested in a battle that I didn't care one bit about before showing up to the cruise. When we arrived at the battlefield, I saw little kids running behind a hill as their parents reminded them that Andrew Jackson used kids to run messages during the battle (a factoid Charles told us, explaining the details of how that was perfectly safe). My 16 year old daughter and I went on the 2 p.m. cruise - not sure if they have other guides, but aim for Charles - she got irked if I tried to talk to her and we were both chuckling at his retelling of the story of Hurricane Katrina....an unbiased account that, nonetheless, made clear the sheer incompetence of Louisiana's politicians handling the crisis.

The narrator was phenomenal. We went on a weekend. He said he was previously a lawyer. He made the trip so very very interesting with all his stories and history. He brought everything alive. and then we sat on a picnic table under the trees when we stopped and gave us a great narration about the land and sea battle of New orleans. he made an ordinary boat ride outstanding. And as we stood in line in front of the mall, the music from a street player (who was very talented) was great too...made the wait very pleasant. everyone was wonderful, but the narration was the best! very comfortable seats in enclosed area by bar was a big plus as I have a bad back and bar staff and everyone were very nice.
