Day 2 – Temples of Angkor with Sunrise   Spend your day temple-hopping with your local guide to make the most of your visit to the world-famous Angkor complex, a site full of temples built between the 19th and 13th centuries. Begin with pre-dawn departure (between 4:15 and 4:40 AM) from your hotel to catch the sunrise outside of Angkor Wat. Then, explore the interior of the great temple, spending a thorough 2 hours discovering its corridors, central chambers, and upper terraces. Move to drive to Ta Nei, a late 12th Century stone temple located in Angkor. This journey takes you through rural Cambodian villages, where you may observe locals going about their everyday lives and admire beautiful landscapes such as rice paddies. Afterward, continue to the hilltop of mountain, and our knowledgeable guide will take you to the most spectacular tourist attractions in the national park, including the largest and most beautiful waterfalls, the reclining Buddha sculpture, and the River of Thousand Linga, which was constructed in 802 AD. In the afternoon, we will have lunch at the local restaurant before heading to Beng Melea, the mysterious 12th-century temple in the middle of the jungle. This temple is heavily overgrown with vegetation, trees, lianas, and mosses. This temple is surrounded by a rainforest due to it being abundant for over 300 years. When it is not fully restored, many local and international tourists fall in love with the area. Take a boat from the ferry to explore the famous floating village of Kampong Phluk. There, you can see firsthand what everyday life is like for the many families who make their living primarily from fishing. Most families live on the lake shore in brightly colored houses on long poles, so the high water levels are not a problem during the rainy season.

Get picked up and see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. Following this, you can choose to visit more temples including Pre Rup and Banteay Samre. Then head to Banteay Srey, arriving before most of the crowds. Marvel at the most intricately carved temple in all of Angkor. Afterwards, see a traditional Khmer village and learn about palm sugar production. If you are interested, visit the Landmine Museum and learn how decades of conflict, foreign occupation, and brutal civil war and genocide have impacted Cambodia.  Afterwards, stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
