Kayaking at Bird Rock

1. Kayaking at Bird Rock

Launch near the historic landmark known as Bird Rock and paddle for about an hour in calm waters sheltered by the bay. Enjoy the wonderful bird life, see seals playing and dolphins swimming. See pelicans, cormorants and flamingos. Paddle for about 1 hour before enjoying some hot beverages on the beach. The brand new Fluid Synergy kayaks can be paddled solo or as a double and can accommodate a small child together with parents for fun for the whole family. Bird Rock is also known as Guano Island. Learn about one man's entrepreneurial drive to build a man-made island to harvest its “white gold.” By about 12:30 PM you’ll be back in Swakopmund to get ready for your afternoon activity.

Walvis Bay Shore Excursion: Flamingos, Dune 7, Swakopmund

2. Walvis Bay Shore Excursion: Flamingos, Dune 7, Swakopmund

You'll be met at your cruise ship in the port of Walvis Bay. After a quick briefing, head over to the lagoon to view all the flamingos. From there, have the chance to climb Dune 7, the highest dune in the vicinity at 132 meters (433 feet) tall. Enjoy a drink of water and then move on to see the Welwitschia Mirabilis plant, an endemic living fossil. Stop to admire the lunar landscape of the Welwitschia Plains before spending lunchtime at Goanikontes Oasis (lunch at your own expense). After lunch, you'll be taken to the old German town of Swakopmund. Explore the town at your own pace and do some shopping. Finally, make your way back to your cruise ship via the coastal road.

Walvis Bay: Pelican Point & Sandwich Harbor Kayak & 4x4 Tour

3. Walvis Bay: Pelican Point & Sandwich Harbor Kayak & 4x4 Tour

The Kayak Combo is the combination of our Pelican Point Kayaking morning tour and an afternoon 4x4 ride in the breathtaking Sandwich Harbour Area of the Namib Naukluft Park. We spend the morning kayak next to our permanent seal colony at the tip of the Pelican Point Peninsula about 35 km outside of Walvis Bay. We regularly encounter Heaviside’s and Benguella Dolphins. Our kayaks are molded plastic sit-inside double kayaks. They are stable and suitable for inexperienced paddlers. Our guide will use a waterproof camera for some photos, which we will email to you withing a week after the tour (no extra cost). After refreshments, we head back to Walvis Bay to meet up with your Sandwich Harbour guide to see the Kuiseb River Delta, flamingoes, the saltpans and the wetlands just north of the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon. If weather and tides allow, you will drive right to the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon, one of Southern Africa’s richest and unique wetlands. Alternatively, you will get a chance to see the lagoon area from one of our many beautiful lookout spots. We return to Walvis Bay around 16h30.

We loved this tour. Our tour guide Jacques was so friendly and informative. We got to learn about Namibia and see some incredible untouched places. Would definitely recommend this tour!!

A great experience, weather wasn't the best, however we still got to see some of the ocean life. We also had an amazing guide, who did a wonderful job explaining everything.

It was very beautiful. When we all capsized, our guide kept calm and brought us safely back on land!
