Full description
Your professional naturalist guide will pick you up at 9 AM from your hotel (or at an agreed meeting point close to your accommodation). From there, enjoy a short, scenic drive to the Sartorius crater of the 2002 volcanic eruption on the northeast side of Etna. Upon arrival, set off on a relaxing hike as your guide introduces you to the fascinating world of volcanic phenomena. Follow your guide as you walk through ancient woods and extinct craters, and witness old lava flows. On this hiking tour, you will have the unique opportunity to admire various kinds of plant and animal life. During the excursion, you will reach a maximum altitude of 2,000 meters (around 6,560 feet). Your guide will take you to explore a volcanic cave, either the Grotto del Ladroni or Grotta Cassone. Equipped with included helmets and torchlights, enter the volcanic underground and visit one of the striking volcanic caves. The guide will explain the origins, characteristics, and uses of this fascinating volcanic phenomenon. After your hiking adventure you will have lunch in a charming winery where you can taste some local food, and three kinds of DOC Etna wines. After lunch, visit the area of Zafferana Etna and meet a honey producer, and get the chance to sample some local products such as liquor and cream. Finish your day back in Catania at around 6 PM–6:30 PM. You will be dropped off at your pickup location unless specified in advance.

Our guide (Paulo) was excellent and really made the whole tour, he had a lot of information to impart which he did whilst also checking that he was not giving us too much information. He was more than happy to amend the tour timings to meet our interests and also ensured that we were well looked after. It was a great day out.

We enjoyed the tour which was very informative. Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained the volcanic processes perfectly. We had booked the trip based on the information that there was a three hour hiking component. This turned out to be a three kilometre hike. It did snow during our trip and this made it difficult but was easily managed. The wine and lunch component of the tour was excellent and could not be faulted. It was a good day but we would have like a bit more hiking

Excellent- best day of our holiday!

The tour, guide, volcano (and weather!) were all fantastic. We all had such a great day. It was nice to meet some other tourists from other parts of the world, and Fabio was a friendly and knowledgable guide. We’d highly recommend any tour from this company and/or visiting Mount Etna
