I didn't take the tour. Just took the ride up and back. Some of us did it on our own, others paid for the tour in addition to the bus ride up and back. Taking this particular bus/tour is the only way to get there early unless you hire a private tour or drive. It was GREAT getting there before the hordes of people but...and this is a huge but....there was NOT enough time to do or see much of anything once there! We got there around 8, and had to meet back at the bus by 10:30. The museum doesn't even open until 10! I never ever ran around an art museum so fast in my life! I literally only had time to see the Black Madonna (that's why I wanted to get there early), walked VERY quickly to St. Michael's Cross, and ran through the art museum in less than 20 minutes! This is such a beautiful place, it deserves an entire day! Too bad there isn't a bus company that will take you up at sunrise and back late afternoon.
First of all, I would like to commend our guide, Martin, who was very punctual and organized with respect to the time and meeting place. She also has a pleasant personality with a great sense of humour. The trip was worthwhile because Martina gave us a historical background of Barcelona and she made the tour of Montseratt a great experience. This early morning tour gives us the chance to see the Black Madonna ahead of the others and appreciate that breathtaking view atop the mountain and picture taking opportunities. This is a great value for money and highly recommended!
The trip itself was very easy and comfortable and Montserrat is certainly beautiful, but unfortunately we went up during a foggy day and could not see anything. We really couldn't even see the monastery it was so foggy. I only hoped that the driver would stop the bus at one of the many viewpoints we had passed to take some pictures since we didn't get any pictures from the top since it was so foggy. If you go on a nice day, I'm sure it is very beautiful.
Montserrat is a must visit when in Barcelona. Our tour guide was excellent however, I thought this was a full day trip. We arrived at Montserrat at 8am, before anyone else and that was incredible. However we left at around 10:30 - which I don’t think was quite enough to get the full experience. I had to choose between visiting the museum and hiking to Sant Michael’s cross. An additional hour would have been perfect.
The tour was great! Gabi is veri good guide, she told us interesting things about Barcelona and not just Montserrat.. She is very friendly and positive person, and the driver also, very comfortable ride the mountain is beautiful and it's really worth going!
